National Institutional Ranking Framework 2019 Released

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings, 2019 was released by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MoHRD).

In-Details :-

• NIRF ranks higher education institutions across the country.
• As per the 2019 rankings, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras was adjudged the best in the country.
• It was followed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru and IIT-Delhi.
• While seven IITs feature in the top 10 list, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi and Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi occupied the rest of the places.

Parameters :-

• The rankings are released after measuring each institute for the following parameters:
  • Teaching, learning, and resources
  • Research and professional practice
  • Graduation Outcomes
  • Outreach and inclusivity
  • Perception of the public
• A total of 3127 institutions applied for the rankings framework.
• The MoHRD has been releasing the rankings since 2016.

Need for NIRF :-

• In international rankings, Indian institutions have been faring badly against their global counterparts.
• In order to improve the rankings of Indian institutions and to bring a competitive spirit among the institutions thereby imparting best education to the people of the country, MHRD has brought out the rankings.
