It is essential that these iconic heritage crafts are taken stock of and promoted as contemporary treasures,\u201d said the Director, UNESCO New Delhi. The Director also said \u201cIt is my hope that India will consider expanding its register of elements inscribed in the UNESCO Representative List of the <strong>Intangible Cultural Heritage<\/strong> of Humanity by nominating one of the textile crafts featured in this publication. No textile practices from India have been included in the list so far and an inscription in the list would be due recognition of the talent and diversity of the country\u2019s extraordinary weaving traditions,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This new UNESCO publication brings together years of research on some 50 textile crafts and contributes to bridging the gap. It charts their histories and legends, describes their making, and identifies the causes for their dwindling popularity, thereby, providing strategies for their preservation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to UNESCO, one of the major challenges to the safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in the South Asia is lack of proper inventory and documentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the textiles that have found the place in the list are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NORTH INDIA<\/strong><strong>: HANDMADE TEXTILE CRAFTS<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Khes weaving. <strong>Panipat.
