{"id":2884,"date":"2020-12-23T14:49:13","date_gmt":"2020-12-23T09:19:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2884"},"modified":"2020-12-23T14:49:13","modified_gmt":"2020-12-23T09:19:13","slug":"plasmodium-ovale-a-new-malaria-type-identified","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/plasmodium-ovale-a-new-malaria-type-identified\/","title":{"rendered":"Plasmodium Ovale &#8211; A New Malaria Type Identified"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In News<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Plasmodium Ovale, a type of malaria has been identified in a\njawan in Kerala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Plasmodium Ovale, a\ntype of malaria has been identified in jawan in Kerala.<\/li><li>The soldier contracted\nduring his posting in Sudan and returned a\nyear back.<\/li><li>Plasmodium Ovale is\nendemic.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Types of Malaria<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The main cause of\nmalaria is the bite of the female Anopheles mosquito when it is infected with\nthe malaria parasite.<\/li><li>There are different\ntypes of malaria parasites which include Plasmodium falciparum, plasmodium\nvivax, plasmodium ovale, plasmodium malariae, and plasmodium knowlesi.<\/li><li>The most common type\nof malaria is caused by plasmodium vivax.<\/li><li>In 2019, in India,\nthere are 1.57 malaria cases.<\/li><li>The high burden cases\nwere recorded in the states Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, and\nMadhya Pradesh.<\/li><li>Out of the total\nmalaria cases, 1.1 lakh cases (70%) were cases of falciparum malaria.<\/li><li>In 2018, the National\nVector-borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) recorded 5 lakh people suffered\nfrom malaria where 63% were from plasmodium falciparum.<\/li><li>According to the World\nMalaria Report 2020, India dropped from about 20 million in 2000 to about 5.6\nmillion in 2019.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Plasmodium Ovale<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Plasmodium Ovale\nrarely causes severe illness.<\/li><li>It is similar to\nPlasmodium vivax and is not a killer.<\/li><li>The symptoms include\n48 hours of fever, nausea, and headache.<\/li><li>The treatment is\nsimilar to a person who is infected with Plasmodium vivax.<\/li><li>The 20% of parasites\ncells are oval shapes and thus is termed as\nOvale.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cases in India<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>According to the\nNational Institute of Malaria Research (NIMR), the case in Kerala is an isolated one and there is no local\ntransmission.<\/li><li>Previously, isolated\ncases were reported in Gujarat, Kolkata, Odisha, and Delhi.<\/li><li>Researchers did a\nrapid antigen test to detect the strain and diagnosed Plasmodium Ovale.<\/li><li>The parasite may\nremain in the liver or spleen of the body for a longer time.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Around the World<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Plasmodium Ovale the\ncause of malaria is endemic to tropical Western Africa only.<\/li><li>According to the NIMR,\nPlasmodium ovale is unusual outside of Africa but when found comprises less\nthan 1%.<\/li><li>P ovale also been\ndetected in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea.<\/li><li>In the China-Myanmar\nborder, the plasmodium ovale and plasmodium malariae have low prevalence.<\/li><li>\u25cf&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nIn China\u2019s Jiangsu\nProvince, malaria cases decrease significantly over 2011-2014 but there was an\nincrease in Plasmodium ovale and plasmodium malariae cases.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>In News Plasmodium Ovale, a type of malaria has been identified in a jawan in Kerala.
