News:<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> India has signed a contract with International Seabed Authority for Exploration of <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>Polymetallic Sulphides in Indian Ocean.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">The contract provides India\u2019s exclusive rights of exploration in the area near the <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><u><b>Rodriguez Tripple Junction<\/b><\/u><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><u> in the southern part of Central India ridge and a part of South-West Indian ridge.<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>International Seabed Authority<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">It is an <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>intergovernmental body based in Kingston<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">, Jamaica and established by the Law of the Sea Convention.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">It was established to organize, regulate and control all mineral-related activities in the international seabed <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>area<\/b><\/span> <span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>beyond the limits of national jurisdiction,<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> an area underlying most of the world\u2019s oceans.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>Polymetallic Nodules<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Polymetallic nodules, also called <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>manganese nodules,<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> are rock concretions on the sea bottom formed of concentric layers of iron and manganese hydroxides around a core. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">The core may be microscopically small and is sometimes completely transformed into manganese minerals by crystallization.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">The sizeable deposits have been found in four areas:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Penrhyn Basin near within the Cook Islands.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">North central Pacific Ocean in a region called the <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>Clarion Clipperton Zone (CCZ)<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> roughly midway between Hawaii and Clipperton Islands.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Peru Basin in the southeast Pacific.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Southern tropical Indian Ocean in a region termed the Indian Ocean Nodule Field (IONF) roughly 500 km SE of Diego Garcia Island.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><u><b>FAME Scheme<\/b><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>In News:<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> Government of India (Ministry of Heavy Industries &amp; Public Enterprises) has notified FAME India Scheme <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>[Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &amp;) Electric Vehicles in India]<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> for implementation.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">It is to support hybrid\/electric vehicles market development and Manufacturing eco-system.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">The scheme has <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>4 focus areas<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> i.e. Technology development, Demand Creation, Pilot Projects and Charging Infrastructure.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">It is aimed at <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>incentivizing all vehicle segments<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> i.e. 2 Wheeler, 3 Wheeler Auto, Passenger 4 Wheeler Vehicle, Light Commercial Vehicles and Buses.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">The scheme covers Hybrid &amp; Electric technologies like Mild Hybrid, Strong Hybrid, and Plug in Hybrid &amp; Battery Electric Vehicles.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><u><b>Development in National Waterways<\/b><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">The Government has planned construction of three multimodal Inland Water Transport (IWT) terminals on National Waterway-1(Ganga) at Varanasi, Sahibganj and Haldia and one terminal on <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>National Waterway-2 (Brahmaputra) at Pandu<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Specified stretches of <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>River Barak have been declared as National Waterway- 16<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> by the National Waterways Act, 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Development of river Barak for navigation is proposed in two stages.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Phase-I \u2013 The stretch from Silchar to Bhanga (71 km).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span lang=\"en-IN\">Phase-II \u2013 Remaining stretch from Silchar to Lakhipur (50 serif;\"><u><b>Project 75I<\/b><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">The <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>Project 75I-class submarine<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> is follow-on of the Project 75 Kalvari-class submarine for the Indian navy.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Under this project, the Indian Navy intends to acquire 6 diesel-electric submarines.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">It will also feature <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>advanced Air Independent Propulsion<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> (AIP) systems to enable them to stay submerged for longer duration and substantially increase their operational range.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">It will have a <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>vertical launch system (VLS)<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> to enable them to carry multiple Brahmos supersonic cruise missiles, making the submarines fully capable of <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>anti-surface and anti-ship warfare missions.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Project 75I submarines will also be armed with torpedoes and will feature advanced stealth capabilities such as a greater ability to suppress noise and acoustic signatures.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Submarines will also be outfitted with <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>Air-independent propulsion (AIP) fuel cells<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> which can significantly increase submerged endurance and operational range.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><u><b>INS Shardul<\/b><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">INS Shardul, an amphibious ship of the Indian Navy, is currently on a month long deployment in the Southern Indian Ocean.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">It is deployed in Seychelles in keeping with the vision of <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>SAGAR \u2013 Security and Growth for All in the Region.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span lang=\"en-IN\">During the deployment, INS Shardul would also assist local authorities in providing logistics and medical support to the outer islands of Seychelles.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">There have been already two deployments in Seychelles \u2013\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>P8I\u00a0<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">maritime reconnaissance aircraft in March 2016 and the second by\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>Indian Naval Ship Trikand\u00a0<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">in July 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><u>Ban on 344 popular drugs<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>In News:<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> The Delhi High Court set aside the Centre\u2019s decision to ban 344 fixed dose combination (FDC) medicines saying the government had acted in a \u201chaphazard manner\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; color: #000000;\">What are combination drugs?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Combination drugs or fixed dose combination (FDC) drugs are those with <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>two or more active pharmaceutical ingredients combined in a fixed dose to form a single drug.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">eg A combination of nimesulide and paracetamol that is prescribed as an anti-pyretic (used to prevent or reduce fever).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">They involve commonly used medications such as paracetamol, aceclofenac and nimesulide.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; color: #000000;\">Why were they banned?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">In a gazette notification issued on March 10, the Health Ministry banned 344 such combination drugs.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">these drugs have\u00a0dangerous side-effects\u00a0and that many of these combinations\u00a0do not have any advantage over the individual drugs.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Eventually, the government acted on the opinion of the\u00a0Kokate Committee\u00a0which recommended the ban.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; color: #000000;\"><b>Migration in India<\/b><\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b> In News: <\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">According to Census data released on Thursday, southern states, especially Tamil Nadu and Kerala, have shown the highest increase in migrant population.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; color: #000000;\">Who are migrants?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">The present study considers migrants by place of last residence i.e those <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>who have last resided at a place other than their place of enumeration<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> are deemed to be migrants.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\">The study, however, does not point out whether these are interstate or intrastate migrants.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span lang=\"en-IN\"><b> What is the current scenario?<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">more migrants over the last decade heading to the southern states, which have grown at a faster clip during this period.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">With <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>45.36 Crore migrants<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> in India,\u00a0every third citizen of the country is a migrant.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Of these,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>69% are women<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Migrants constitute 37.8% of India\u2019s 121.03 Crore population. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Tamil Nadu\u2019s migrant population surged 98% between\u00a02001 to 2011. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Kerala\u2019s migrant population has grown by 77 nearly 49% of the population called themselves migrants.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Karnataka too has shown a 50% increase in its migrant population.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Only Andhra Pradesh, with a 40% rise in migrant population, has shown a growth below the national average.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Meghalaya and Manipur, where the number of migrants has grown by 108% and 97% respectively.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; color: #000000;\">What is the reason for migration?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">While globally, migration is attempt by people to survive and prosper.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">In India,\u00a0marriage appears to be the biggest reason\u00a0why people migrate.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Of the total 45.36 Crore migrants, 69% people referred to marriage being the reason for their migration.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"display: inline !important;\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Only\u00a017% of the migrants termed work\u00a0and business as causes.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><b style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; color: #000000;\">Why women migrate?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Majority of women have cited marriage or having migrated with their husbands as the reason for their translocation.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Indian women are also migrating for work and education. It has grown by 129%.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">During the same period, the number of male economic migrants grew by 51%.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; color: #000000;\">Why surge in migration to Southern States?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">The\u00a0socio-economic development\u00a0of the southern
