{"id":2805,"date":"2020-11-17T14:09:31","date_gmt":"2020-11-17T08:39:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2805"},"modified":"2020-11-17T14:09:47","modified_gmt":"2020-11-17T08:39:47","slug":"challenges-in-delivery-of-covid-19-vaccine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/challenges-in-delivery-of-covid-19-vaccine\/","title":{"rendered":"Challenges in Delivery of COVID-19 Vaccine"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In News<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Experts say that the delivery of CoVID-19 vaccines poses a\nhuge challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The government\nannounced the distribution of the COVID vaccine under the COVID-19 immunization programme.<\/li><li>The government will\nprocure and distribute the vaccine to four categories of people, free of cost.<\/li><li>The first category is\nfor healthcare workers which include doctors, nurses, and ASHA workers.<\/li><li>The second category is\nfor frontline workers which includes police and armed forces.<\/li><li>The third category is\nfor citizens above 50 years of age.<\/li><li>The final category is\nfor below 50 years of age with co-morbidities.<\/li><li>Experts say that hard\nchoices are to be made when there is an insufficient supply of vaccines.<\/li><li>Deciding whom to\ndistribute will become difficult such as the ones that are more effective to\nthe vaccine is the younger population than the elder one and whom to choose\nfirst.<\/li><li>The government may\nallow companies to purchase vaccines for the maintenance of business\ncontinuity.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Temperature Requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The COVID vaccines are\nto be distributed at ultralow temperatures.<\/li><li>Most of the COVID\nvaccines are RNA vaccines which are in the advanced Stage of Phase-3 trials and\nrequire -70 degree C to -80 degree C cold chain.<\/li><li>The COVID vaccine is\nsimilar to the EBOLA vaccine which requires the same kind of cold storage.<\/li><li>The Ebola vaccine\nstorage was difficult to establish in countries like West Africa.<\/li><li>Experts say that how\nfeasible is it to distribute the vaccines in the US, UK, and in India where\ntens and hundreds of million doses are required.<\/li><li>Scientists are\nmodifying the vaccines and increase their ability to match with the storage\nconditions in the other parts of the world.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Resources<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>For continuous supply of vaccines, the resources required are the storage\nrequirements and building infrastructures for ultracold storage.<\/li><li>India does not have\nthis kind of storage as it requires freezers along with an uninterrupted power\nsupply.<\/li><li>So for the delivery of\nthe vaccine, there is a need to consider the logistics and infrastructure which\ngoes beyond the financial resources to purchase vaccines.<\/li><li>The next biggest\nchallenge is vaccinating people.<\/li><li>For the best results,\npeople are vaccinated with two doses for four weeks.<\/li><li>This is much similar\nto polio and rubella campaigns.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Adults and Children<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The National\nImmunisation Programme is limited to vaccinating children and this should be\ntaken into consideration.<\/li><li>COVID-19 vaccine will\nbe given to all ages including the older\npeople.<\/li><li>The vaccines are\nprioritized according to the groups identified by the government.<\/li><li>The vaccines are\navailable only in the public sector in the initial stage<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>In News Experts say that the delivery of CoVID-19 vaccines poses a huge challenge.
