{"id":2797,"date":"2020-11-05T16:10:20","date_gmt":"2020-11-05T10:40:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2797"},"modified":"2020-11-05T16:10:20","modified_gmt":"2020-11-05T10:40:20","slug":"pilot-scheme-for-distribution-of-fortified-rice-began","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/pilot-scheme-for-distribution-of-fortified-rice-began\/","title":{"rendered":"Pilot Scheme for Distribution of Fortified Rice Began"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In\nNews<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nDFPD identified states for the pilot launch of a scheme wherefortified rice will be distributed through the\npublic distribution system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The Department of Food and Distribution\n(DFPD) launched the <strong>\u2018<\/strong><strong>Centrally Sponsored Pilot Scheme on\nFortification of Rice\u2019<\/strong> and its distribution through the\nPublic Distribution System (PDS) towards <strong>nutritional security.<\/strong><\/li><li>The scheme is <strong>aimed at fighting\nagainst chronic anaemia and undernutrition.<\/strong><\/li><li>This <strong>Pilot Schem<\/strong>e has been approved <strong>for\nthree years<\/strong> with a <strong>budget of Rs 174.6 from 2019.<\/strong><\/li><li>The\nDFDP<strong>\nidentified 15 state governments <\/strong>and their respective\ndistricts for the distribution of rice.<\/li><li>The distribution of fortified rice has\nalready started in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh.<\/li><li>A review meeting was conducted by the\nUnion Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs on 31<sup>st<\/sup> October 2020\nand emphasised scaling up of the distribution of fortified rice in the country.<\/li><li>The DFDP approached the Food Corporation\nof India (FCI) to come up with a plan for the procurement and distribution of\nfortified rice.<\/li><li>The rice will be distributedunder the<strong>Integrated\nChild Development Services (ICDS) and Mid-Day Meal Scheme (MDM) from 2021-2022.<\/strong><\/li><li>With the<strong> Mid-Day Meal scheme, children\nin government schools and anganwadis will be soon eating rice infused with\niron, folic acid and vitamin B-12.<\/strong><\/li><li>The main focus of the Pilot Scheme will\nbe on procuring and supplying fortified rice to the <strong>112 specially identified\nAspirational Districts.<\/strong><\/li><li>The supply of <strong>Fortified Rice Kernels\n(FRK)<\/strong> is to the tune of 15,000 MT per annum.<\/li><li>To cover 112 aspirational districts for\nPDS, MDM and ICDS there is a need for 130 Lakh MT of Fortified rice.<\/li><li>To distribute the quantum of rice, there\nmust be an uninterrupted supply of FRK from the industry about 3.5 Lakh MT.<\/li><li>In the country, there are 28,000 rice\nmills that need to be equipped with blending machines for mixing the normal\nrice with fortified rice.<\/li><li>The supply chain and logistic\nimplications were held with NITI Aayog, FSSAI, Tata Trust and World Food\nProgramme.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Aspirational\nDistricts Programme<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Launched in the year 2018, the\nTransformation of Aspirational Districts Programme (ADP) aimed at improving the\nsocio-economic status of 117 poor districts from across 28 states of the country.<\/li><li>The programme is entirely driven by the\nstate governments. <\/li><li>At least one district is selected from\nthe 28 states.<\/li><li>The progress of the programme is\nmonitored in real-time through a dashboard. <\/li><li>Niti Aayog is the primary agency for\nmonitoring the progress of the programme. <\/li><li>The programme has three core principles\nand five broad themes with appropriate weightage for monitoring progress. <\/li><li>The three core principles are<ul><li>Convergence\nof central and state schemes<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Collaboration\namong citizens and functionaries of central and state governments including\ndistrict teams<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Competition\namong districts <\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>The Five themes are<ul><li>Health\nand nutrition with 30% weightage <\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Education\nwith 30% weightage<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Agriculture\nand water resources with 20% weightage<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Financial\ninclusion and skill development with 10% weightage <\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Basic\ninfrastructure with 10% weightage<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>In News The DFPD identified states for the pilot launch of a scheme wherefortified rice will be distributed through the public distribution system.
