{"id":2767,"date":"2020-10-28T12:12:47","date_gmt":"2020-10-28T06:42:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2767"},"modified":"2020-10-28T12:12:47","modified_gmt":"2020-10-28T06:42:47","slug":"india-us-defence-deals-on-the-cards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/india-us-defence-deals-on-the-cards\/","title":{"rendered":"India-US Defence Deals On the Cards"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In\nNews<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>India and\nthe US are preparing for the<strong> third 2+2 ministerial meeting.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>On October 26-27, 2020 at New Delhi the External\nAffairs Minister and Defence Minister of India and US Secretary of State and\nDefence Secretary are preparing for the<strong>third 2+2 ministerial meeting.<\/strong><\/li><li>The key agenda will be on the <strong>Basic Exchange\nand Cooperation Agreement (BECA).<\/strong><\/li><li>The <strong>BECA lays the foundation for deeper\nmilitary cooperation.<\/strong><\/li><li>In the previous two meetings, <strong>COMCASA and\nLEMOA<\/strong> were signed.<\/li><li>All three agreements include the <strong>sharing of\ntelephone intercepts, high-end satellite images and data sharing of Chinese\ntroops and weapons deployment along the Line of Actual Control which is 3488km.<\/strong><\/li><li>The Indian armed forces used five American\nplatforms at the LAC-C-17 Globemaster III from military transport, Boeing\u2019s Apache as tank killers, Boeing\u2019s Chinkoo CH-47 as heavy-lift helicopters, for overland\nreconnaissance P-81 Poseidon and Lockheed Martin\u2019s C-130J for airlifting troops.<\/li><li>India made this move because of Chinese\nbelligerence being clear and the threat from them is evident.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">BECA<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The<strong> Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement\n(BECA)<\/strong> refers to the <strong>geospatial intelligence and sharing satellite\nimages and information on maps for defence.<\/strong><\/li><li>Geospatial intelligence can identify anyone who\nsails on the ship, flies an aircraft, fights wars, locates targets, responds to\nnatural disasters, etc.<\/li><li>This agreement will allow India to use advanced\nUS geospatial intelligence.<\/li><li>It also enhances the accuracy of automated\nweapons and systems like missiles and armed drones.<\/li><li>BECA gives access to topographical and\naeronautical data and products.<\/li><li>This agreement will aid in navigation and\ntargeting.<\/li><li>The geospatial intelligence could add the key to\nthe Air Force to Air Force cooperation.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">LEMOA<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>In\nAugust <strong>2016<\/strong>, India and the US signed the <strong>Logistics Exchange of\nMemorandum of Agreement (LEMOA).<\/strong><\/li><li>This agreement facilitates the military of each\ncountry to replenish from other bases.<\/li><li>Each country can access supplies, spare parts\nand services from other country\u2019s land\nfacilities, airbases and ports.<\/li><li>As India and the US are cooperating closely in\nthe Indo-Pacific, this is useful for Navy-to-Navy cooperation.<\/li><li>Signing the LEMOA needed trust and its\napplication enhances the trust.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">COMCASA<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>After the first 2+2 ministerial meeting, the <strong>Communications\nCompatibility and Security Agreement (COMCASA)<\/strong>was signed in<strong> 2018.<\/strong><\/li><li>This agreement provides India with the US\nencrypted communications equipment and systems.<\/li><li>This allows India and the US military\ncommanders, aircrafts and ships to communicate through secure networks in peace\nand in war.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>India\u2019s willingness to sign all these agreements\nsignal the level of trust between India and the US and their militaries faced\nwith an aggressive China.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>In News India and the US are preparing for the third 2+2 ministerial meeting.
