{"id":2762,"date":"2020-10-26T12:37:10","date_gmt":"2020-10-26T07:07:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2762"},"modified":"2020-10-26T12:37:10","modified_gmt":"2020-10-26T07:07:10","slug":"china-closes-in-on-the-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/china-closes-in-on-the-us\/","title":{"rendered":"China Closes in on the US"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In News<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>China\nis becoming the most powerful country in the Asia-Pacific region according to <strong>Asia\nPower Index.<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Due to the United State\u2019s shabby handling\nof the Covid-19 pandemic, China isbecoming the most powerful country in the\nAsia-Pacific region.<\/li><li>According to the <strong>Sydney-based Lowy\nInstitute<\/strong><strong>\u2019<\/strong><strong>s Asia Power Index for 2020<\/strong>,\nAmerica has been halved in its 10-point lead on China than two years ago.<\/li><li><strong>Lowy<\/strong><strong>\u2019<\/strong><strong>s Institute has ranked 26 nations and territories.<\/strong><\/li><li>The Institute used <strong>128 indicators to\nmeasure the index power<\/strong> which includes <strong>defence spending, economic\nrelations, internal stability, the flow of the information and resources for\nfuture projects.<\/strong><\/li><li>Due to the poor response to the Covid-19\npandemic, multiple trade disputes and the President Donald Trump\u2019s move to\nwithdraw from multilateral deals and agencies has led to loss of prestige to\nthe United States in the Asia-Pacific region.<\/li><li>As per the latest estimate, to recover\nfrom the pandemic, the US economy could take until 2024.<\/li><li>On the other hand, China\u2019s economy has bounced back from the\nimpact of the virus and is the only large economy to recover in 2020.<\/li><li>Despite seeing a fall, China stayed\nfirmly atthe second place for the third year in a row in the Asia Power Index.<\/li><li>The contributions to that fall are due to\nChina\u2019s diplomatic clout which is facingaccusations relating to Covid-19 and\nits wolf warrior diplomacy.<\/li><li>The study says that China will eventually\nlevel with the United States and may surpass the US at the end of the decade.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Indian Power In Asia <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>India<\/strong>lost\neconomic growth potential due to the pandemic and is now the <strong>fourth <\/strong>most\npowerful nation after Japan in the Asia-Pacific region.<\/li><li>By 2030, Lowy projects that India will\nreach 40% of China\u2019s economy when compared with 50% estimate\nin 2019.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Impact of Pandemic on Asia-Pacific Region<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>According to the <strong>United Nations\nUniversity World Institute for Development Economics Research<\/strong>, <strong>347.4\nmillion people in the Asia-Pacific region could fall below the $5.5 a day\npoverty line because of the pandemic.<\/strong><\/li><li>Asia\u2019s economy is considered to become larger\nthan the rest of the world in 2020.<\/li><li>But now, it is facing a storm of public\nhealth, economic and strategic challenges.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other Powers <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Japan<\/strong><strong>\nis ranked third <\/strong>and is reported as a <strong>smart power\nfor using limited resources to wield broad influence in the region.<\/strong><\/li><li>Japan gained most points in terms of its\ndefence diplomacy which includes joint military exercises and procurement of\narms.<\/li><li>The countries which ranked under top 10\nare Australia, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, Thailand, and South Korea.<\/li><li>According to the report, South Asian\nnations have been gripped with political turbulence.<\/li><li>This year Taiwan gained its power, along\nwith Australia and Vietnam.<\/li><li>Taiwan improved its diplomatic influence\nscore when a handful of allies cut official ties in 2019 as Beijing wanted to\nisolate the island on the world stage.<\/li><li>Australia climbed to 6<sup>th<\/sup> rank\nby overtaking South Korea. <\/li><li>Cultural and diplomatic influence helped\nAustralia score points. Its economic relationship score has also increased\nafter Australia secured its 14<sup>th<\/sup> free trade deal with Indonesia.<\/li><li>Russia and Malaysia positioned as the\nbiggest loses in the index.<\/li><li>Russia performed best on resilience\nmeasures, diplomatic influence and military capability.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>In News China is becoming the most powerful country in the Asia-Pacific region according to Asia Power Index.
