{"id":2759,"date":"2020-10-26T12:30:18","date_gmt":"2020-10-26T07:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2759"},"modified":"2020-10-26T12:30:18","modified_gmt":"2020-10-26T07:00:18","slug":"malabar-naval-exercise-australia-to-join","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/malabar-naval-exercise-australia-to-join\/","title":{"rendered":"Malabar Naval Exercise &#8211; Australia To Join"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In\nNews<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Australia\nwill take part in the Malabar Naval\nExercise\nin 2020 which will boost the interoperation capabilities of the Quad in the\nhigh seas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The Ministry of Defence announced that <strong>Australia\nwill take part in the Malabar Naval Exercise 2020.<\/strong><\/li><li>The countries that are going to\nparticipate in the <strong>Malabar Naval Exercise in 2020 are India, Japan, the USA\nand now Australia.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>The Quad group formally bring four\ncountries militaries together and this is the first military exercise between\nall the four countries.<\/strong><\/li><li>The exercise is scheduled to be held at\nthe end of November.<\/li><li>The exercise is planned on a non-contact\nformat at sea level.<\/li><li>The discussion for Australia\u2019s\ninclusion has come up at the Quad meeting in Tokyo.<\/li><li><strong>The Malabar exercise was a bilateral\nexercise between India and the USA in 1992.<\/strong><\/li><li>Later it expanded into the <strong>trilateral\nformat with Japan<\/strong><strong>\u2019<\/strong><strong>s inclusion in 2015.<\/strong><\/li><li>The Malabar exercise includes simulated\nwar games and combat manoeuvres.<\/li><li>In 2019, it was held in September off the\ncoast of Japan.<\/li><li>It included the complex maritime\noperations in surface, air domains and sub-surface with the key focus on\nanti-submarine, anti-air and anti-surface firings, tactical scenario based\nexercise at the sea and maritime interdiction operations (MIO).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Malabar,\nBECA and Strengthening of\nQuad<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Wary of China\u2019s rise in the Asia-Pacific\nregion, a grouping of four countries &#8211; India, the USA, Japan and Australia was mooted. <\/li><li>But, the progress towards formalising the\nQuad was slow until recently. <\/li><li>With China\u2019s aggression in the region and\nthe standoff at Ladakh gave a fresh impetus to the Quad and the things are\nmoving quickly towards formalisation.<\/li><li>The joining of Australia to the Malabar\nexercise must be seen in this light. <\/li><li>China had vehemently opposed the Malabar\nexercises between the four countries. <\/li><li>It perceives the exercises to be directly\naimed at it. <\/li><li>But, the formalisation of Quad is gaining\npace and the grouping will be a strong counter top China in the region. <\/li><li>In this regard, India and the USA are\nstepping up to conclude the <strong>Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA).<\/strong><\/li><li>The <strong>BECA will allow India to use US\ngeospatial intelligence. It also enhances the accuracy of automated weapons and\nsystems like missiles and armed drones.<\/strong><\/li><li>In September 2018, both the countries\nhave signed the <strong>Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement (COMCASA).<\/strong><\/li><li>This cleared the way for the transfer of\ncommunication security equipment from the US to India.<\/li><li>This will help in interoperability\nbetween the two forces and with other militaries which are using the US origin\nsystems for secure data links.<\/li><li><strong>In August 2016, the USA and India\nsigned the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA).<\/strong><\/li><li>This agreement will allow replenishing\nthe military of each country from the other\u2019s base.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe completion of the\nall the three foundational agreements with the USA will make India take\nadvantage of technological and intelligence of the USA to counter China. \n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>In News Australia will take part in the Malabar Naval Exercise in 2020 which will boost the interoperation capabilities of the Quad in the high <a class=\"mh-excerpt-more\" href=\"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/malabar-naval-exercise-australia-to-join\/\" title=\"Malabar Naval Exercise &#8211;
