{"id":2746,"date":"2020-10-21T14:23:59","date_gmt":"2020-10-21T08:53:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2746"},"modified":"2020-10-21T14:23:59","modified_gmt":"2020-10-21T08:53:59","slug":"risk-factors-for-deaths-in-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/risk-factors-for-deaths-in-india\/","title":{"rendered":"Risk Factors for Deaths in India"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In\nNews<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nLancet Report estimates five risk factors for death in India in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The Lancet Report estimates the top five risk\nfactors for deaths in India.<\/li><li>The top five factors that caused deaths in India\nin 2019 were<ul><li><strong>air pollution-<\/strong>number of deaths due to\nthis is estimated to be 1.67 million, <\/li><\/ul><ul><li><strong>high blood pressure-<\/strong>number of deaths is\nestimated as 1.47 million deaths<\/li><\/ul><ul><li><strong>use of tobacco-<\/strong> 1.23 million deaths<\/li><\/ul><ul><li><strong>poor\ndiet-<\/strong> estimated to be 1.18 million deaths and<\/li><\/ul><ul><li><strong>high blood sugar-<\/strong> 1.12 million deaths.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>The risk factor analysis is a part of the <strong>Global\nBurden of Disease (GBD) study.<\/strong><\/li><li>The researchers have analyzed data from 204\ncountries on 286 causes of deaths, 369 diseases and injuries and 87 risk factors.<\/li><li>The latest estimation indicates the\nvulnerability of the countries to the Covid-19.<\/li><li>The researchers said that the interaction of\nCovid-19 with the current global crisis of chronic illness and the related risk\nfactors has put populations vulnerable to health emergencies.<\/li><li>The risk factors include obesity, high blood\npressure, tobacco use, and outdoor air pollution which have risen over the past\n30 years.<\/li><li>The non-communicable cause of deaths in India in\n2019 was led by the <strong>ischemic heart disease<\/strong> with an estimation of <strong>1.52\nmillion deaths<\/strong>.<\/li><li>This is followed by the <strong>chronic obstructive\npulmonary disease<\/strong> with 8,98,000 deaths, <strong>strokes<\/strong> 6,99,000 deaths, <strong>diabetics<\/strong> 2, 73,000 deaths, <strong>cirrhosis<\/strong> and other <strong>chronic\nliver diseases<\/strong> with an estimation of 2,70,000 deaths.<\/li><li>In 2019, the leading risk factor for health loss\nwas child and maternal malnutrition and the second leading risk factor was air pollution.<\/li><li>The Lancet report said that <strong>58% of the total\ndisease burden in India is due to non-communicable diseases (NCD).This has\nincreased from 29% in 1990.<\/strong><\/li><li>The premature deaths due to non-communicable\ndiseases have doubled from 22 to 50 percent.<\/li><li>India\u2019s life expectancy has increased to 70.8 years in 2019\nfrom 59.6 years in 1990. <\/li><li>In states, Kerala has the highest life\nexpectancy at 77.3 years an UP the lowest at 66.9 years.<\/li><li>But the increase in healthy life expectancy\nwhich is 60.5 years in India do not match the increase in the growth of life\nexpectancy. This means most of the people are living with illness and\ndisability.<\/li><li>In\nIndia, child and maternal malnutrition is still the top risk factor for\nillness and death.<\/li><li>Several states in northern India such as Bihar\nand Uttar Pradesh contributes 20% of the total disease burden due to child and\nmaternal malnutrition.<\/li><li>Since 1990, the proportion of total health loss\n(DALYs) caused by the rise of NCDs is more than 150% in countries like Bhutan,\nNepal and Bangladesh.<\/li><li>These regions are dominated by infectious,\nmaternal, neonatal and nutritional diseases for 30 years.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Silver\nLining<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>One silver lining the authors of the study noted\nwas reduction in infections diseases across the world, including India. <\/li><li>The achievement, the authors observed, was due\nto immunisation and better medical care in many countries. <\/li><li>But, the authors also noted that some countries\nare still struggling to manage the infectious disease epidemics.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prescribed\nSolution<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The researchers for the study noted that there\nis a correlation between social and economic development to overall health of a\nhuman being. <\/li><li>Thus, they call for doubling down on polices\nwhich hamper economic development.<\/li><li>They also recommended making expanding access to\nschools and improving the status of women a collective priority for better\nhealth.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>In News The Lancet Report estimates five risk factors for death in India in 2019.
