{"id":2702,"date":"2020-09-29T16:18:18","date_gmt":"2020-09-29T10:48:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2702"},"modified":"2020-09-29T16:18:18","modified_gmt":"2020-09-29T10:48:18","slug":"feluda-test-for-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/feluda-test-for-covid-19\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Feluda Test\u2019 for COVID-19"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In News<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>India has approved Feluda Test for detecting COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI)\nlaunched an accurate and <strong>low-cost paper-based test strip to detect COVID-19\nin less than 30 minutes for commercial use.<\/strong><\/li><li>The <strong>test has been named as Feluda by the\nresearch team of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and\nTata Group.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Feluda is a fictional private detective from\nWest Bengal created by the writer and filmmaker Satyajit Ray.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New Feluda Test<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Feluda is known as FNCAS9 Editor Linked\nUniform Detection Assay.<\/strong><\/li><li>It uses CRISPR gene-editing technology to\nidentify and target the genetic material of SARS-CoV2.<\/li><li>The test matches the accuracy levels of RT-PCR\ntests and is considered as the gold standard in the diagnosis of COVID-19.<\/li><li>It has a quick turnaround time and requires\ncost-effective equipment.<\/li><li>The US is the first country in the world to approve a CRISPR-based test for COVID-19. This test was\ndeveloped by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University. <\/li><li>The Tata\u2019s\nClustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR) test powered\nby CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB) Feluda has met the\nbenchmark with 96% sensitivity and 98% specificity for detecting coronavirus.<\/li><li><strong>Feluda is the world<\/strong><strong>\u2019s first diagnostic test to deploy a specifically adapted\nCas9 protein.<\/strong><\/li><li>To detect SARS-CoV2, the other CRISPR tests uses\nCAS12 and CAS 13 protein.<\/li><li>The research team created the new test kit while\nworking under the sickle cell mission for genome diagnostics and therapeutics.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CRISPR Technology<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>CRISPR is a gene-editing technology and is used\nin correcting genetic defects, treating and preventing the spread of the\ndiseases.<\/li><li>It can detect specific sequences of DNA within a\ngene.<\/li><li>It uses an enzyme functioning as molecular\nscissors to snip the DNA sequence.<\/li><li>It allows for easy alteration of the DNA\nsequences and modify gene function.<\/li><li>CRISPR technology can be configured for the\ndetection of multiple pathogens in the future.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Significance of Feluda<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The approval of Feluda addresses the urgent need\nfor ramping up testing capacity in the country to curtail the spread of\ncoronavirus. <\/li><li>It is relatively easy to use and is affordable\nthan the expensive RT-PCR machines being used to test the sample.<\/li><li>The short period of 30 minutes for results will\nalso enable faster detection of COVID-19 patients and treatment can be\ninitiated immediately.<\/li><li>The development of the test kit while working on\nsickle cell mission for genome diagnostics shows the interconnectedness of\nscientific knowledge and technology.<\/li><li>According to the innovators, the \u2018Made in India\u2019\ntest kit is 100% safe to use and is of high-quality.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>In News India has approved Feluda Test for detecting COVID-19.
