But attention was not paid to the after effects of\nthe disease.<\/li><li>SARS-CoV-2 is essentially a virus that hits the\nlungs in a smaller subset.<\/li><li>Now it seems to have an impact on lungs, brain,\nheart and increasing the risk of long-term health issues and life-threatening\ncomplications.<\/li><li>Some people who had mild versions of the disease\ncontinue to experience symptoms after their initial recovery.<\/li><li>People who tested positive but were asymptomatic\nduring their disease are not immune to long term effects.<\/li><li>Researchers from China said that CT scans done\nin the asymptomatic people revealed abnormal radiological findings in one lung\nin 66.7% of the asymptomatic people and abnormalities in both lungs in 33.3% on\nthem.<\/li><li>Senior citizens and people with co-morbidities\nare more likely to suffer long-term effects.<\/li><li>Children and young adults who had milder\nversions of the diseases are reporting symptoms.<\/li><li>The WHO mentions a telephonic survey of\nsymptomatic adults: 35% had not returned to their usual state of health after\n2-3 weeks of testing.<\/li><li>20% of those in the 18-34 years age group,\nwhowere in good health, reported that some symptoms were prolonged.&nbsp; <\/li><li>Countries are now realizing the importance of\nassessing the long-term impact and exploring solutions to rectify the damage.<\/li><li>One such project is the UK\u2019s PHOSP (post hospitalization) COVID project is a global\nproject- to study patients who have been hospitalized with COVID-19.<\/li><li>To gain a comprehensive picture of the impact of\nCOVID-19,the project team will track clinical assessments of 10,000 patients\nand will develop new strategies to improve long-term health.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Complications\nof COVID-19<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The Vaccine Research Group, Mayo Clinic, US said\nCOVID-19 has several mysterious compared to a normal respiratory virus.<\/li><li>There is a diminution of immunity, head-aches,\nlong-term fatigue and difficulty with cognition, vertigo and cardio-respiratory\nfitness.<\/li><li>This disease can cause cellular level damage.<\/li><li>The most common symptoms are fatigue, shortness\nof breathing, cough, headache, joint and muscle pain.<\/li><li>Doctors who recovered from COVID-19 in Chennai\ncomplained about chronic fatigue, muscles pain and weakness.<\/li><li>The organs that may affect by COVID-19 includes <ul><li><strong>Heart-<\/strong> Damage to the heart muscles even\nin those with mild symptoms, increasing the risk of heart failure or heart\ncomplications.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li><strong>Lungs-<\/strong>\nlong-standing damage to the air sacs, leading to long-term breathing problems.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li><strong>Brain<\/strong><strong>&#8211; <\/strong>seizures, strokes and\nGuillain-Barre syndrome which causes temporary paralysis and risk of developing\nParkinson\u2019s and Alzheimer\u2019s\ndisease.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li><strong>Blood<\/strong><strong>&#8211; <\/strong>clumping up of blood cells and forming clots. Large clots can\ncause heart attacks and strokes. The heart damage caused by the COVID-19 is\nstemmed from small clots that block capillaries in the heart muscle. Such clots\ncan affect other organs like the lungs, legs, liver, and kidneys.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li><strong>Mood disorders-<\/strong> development of\npost-traumatic stress disorder, depression and anxiety.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>In News A new research shows the long-term health risks of COVID-19.
