{"id":2648,"date":"2020-07-21T12:57:04","date_gmt":"2020-07-21T07:27:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2648"},"modified":"2020-07-21T12:57:04","modified_gmt":"2020-07-21T07:27:04","slug":"the-lancet-global-health-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/the-lancet-global-health-report\/","title":{"rendered":"The Lancet Global Health Report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In News<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Lancet Global Health Report, HIV, TB and Malaria\ndeath rate may increase worldwide in low and middle-income countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The <strong>Lancet Global Health Report<\/strong> shows\nthat low and middle-income countries could see a spike in HIV, TB and malaria\ncase as much as 10, 20 and 36% respectively for the next 5 years.<\/li><li>This is due to the COVID-19 impact on health\nservices.<\/li><li>The estimation of the researchers in areas\naffected heavily by these diseases maybe worst. This is due to the public\nhealth impact of Covid-19 on years of life lost.<\/li><li>In countries with a high malaria burden, large\nHIV and TB epidemics will have devastating consequences.<\/li><li>This can be avoided by taking preventive\nmeasures without any destructions and maintaining core services.<\/li><li>According to the health report, the malaria\ndeath rate have reduced by half since 2000. But in 2018, 94% of deaths in\nsub-Saharan Africa where claimed by malaria (380,000 lives).<\/li><li>The increase in the death rate is, as mosquitoes\nand parasites are gaining resistance against the treatment.<\/li><li>With the availability of antiretroviral therapy,\nHIV death rates globally have been halved. Again in 2019, 690,000 people died\nwith HIV worldwide and the majority from LMICs.<\/li><li>Between 2000 and 2015, 49 million lives were\nsaved through TB treatment. But in 2018, 1.8 million people died due to TB and\n95% of the death rate is from LMICs.<\/li><li>Researchers used R0- a basic reproductive number\nof three to develop four different policy response scenarios to the COVID-19\npandemic.<\/li><li>R0 represents the average number of people each\nindividual who is likely to be infected with the disease.<\/li><li>The three scenarios are no action, mitigation-\n45% of the reduction in R0 using physical distancing for six months,\nsuppression- 75% of reduction in R0 for one year.<\/li><li>To estimate the additional impact on the health\nthat caused due to the impact of COVID-19, researchers used the transmission\nmodels of HIV, TB and malaria.<\/li><li>The findings suggest that the pandemic impacts\nvary according to which the interventions against the activities of COVID-19\nare distracted.<\/li><li>The greater impact will be on HIV if the supply\nand administration of ART are interrupted. In countries where HIV rates are\nhigh like southern Africa, the death rate may increase up to 10 % over the five\nyears without any disruptions due to Covid-19.<\/li><li>Researchers suggest that the patients should\nreceive ART multi-month prescriptions even in the period of highest health\nsystem demand.<\/li><li>The greatest impact for TB is estimated to be\nfrom reductions in the treatment and diagnosis of new cases due to COVID-19\ncontainment measures.<\/li><li>The worst scenario is assuming the suppression\nin countries with a high burden. In African countries the death rate may\nincrease to 20% over the next five years with the impact of pandemics.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Lancet Global Health Report<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The Lancet Global Health Report is a monthly\nmedical journal and has open access with the free subscription.<\/li><li>The journal focuses on topics such as\nreproduction, maternal, child, neonatal, adolescent health, infectious\ndiseases, global health system, health policy etc.<\/li><li>The journal aims to publish the best science to\nadvance health in all regions of the world.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>In News According to the Lancet Global Health Report, HIV, TB and Malaria death rate may increase worldwide in low and middle-income countries.
