{"id":2632,"date":"2020-07-04T13:59:45","date_gmt":"2020-07-04T08:29:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2632"},"modified":"2020-07-04T13:59:45","modified_gmt":"2020-07-04T08:29:45","slug":"covid-19-causing-type-1-diabetes-spontaneously","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/covid-19-causing-type-1-diabetes-spontaneously\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19 Causing Type-1 Diabetes Spontaneously"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In News<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>New research on novel coronavirus shows that the infection may\ntrigger type-1 diabetes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>For developing severe COVID-19, diabetes is one\nof the key risk factors and in some cases the patients may die.<\/li><li>The new research has evidence that novel\ncoronavirus might trigger diabetes in some people who were free from diabetes.<\/li><li>The 2002 SARS coronavirus too caused diabetes in\npatients.<\/li><li>The virus binds the ACE2 receptors involved in\ncontrolling blood sugar in organs like the liver and pancreatic beta cells and\ninfects the cells in the organ.<\/li><li>The research study shows that there is a two-way\nrelationship between Covid-19 and diabetes. Diabetes is the key risk factor for\nsevere Covid-19 and on the other hand, new research showed severe metabolic\ncomplications of preexisting diabetes.<\/li><li>The new research needs more evidence to prove\nthat COVID-19 causes type-1 diabetes. <\/li><li>With the new finding, a global database to\ncollect information on people with COVID-19 and patients who do not have type-1\ndiabetes has been initiated.<\/li><li>Researchers want to use the database to\nunderstand whether SARS-CoV-2 can induce type-1 diabetes or a new form of the\ndisease.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cause of Type-1 Diabetes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Type-1 diabetes is caused when the patient\u2019s immune system attacks and destroys the beta cells,\nwhich produce insulin in the pancreas. <\/li><li>When the beta cells are destroyed, the\nproduction of insulin will reduce. <\/li><li>Hence, the ability of the body to control blood\nsugar is compromised and leads to type-1 diabetes.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Test Trials<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Researchers used human pluripotent stem cells to\ngrow miniature liver and pancreas.<\/li><li>They transplanted the miniature pancreatic\nendocrine cells into mice.<\/li><li>They examined the xenografted pancreas and found\nACE2 receptors on beta and alpha cells of the mice.<\/li><li>When the mice infected with coronavirus the beta\ncell also infected by the virus.<\/li><li>The researchers were able to study the\ncapability of the virus in damaging the cells that control the blood-sugar\nlevels and triggering acute-onset of type-1 diabetes.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>In News New research on novel coronavirus shows that the infection may trigger type-1 diabetes.
