{"id":2611,"date":"2020-05-12T12:26:05","date_gmt":"2020-05-12T06:56:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2611"},"modified":"2020-05-12T12:26:05","modified_gmt":"2020-05-12T06:56:05","slug":"cloud-bands-on-the-surface-of-luhman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/cloud-bands-on-the-surface-of-luhman\/","title":{"rendered":"Cloud Bands on the Surface of Luhman"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In News<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A group of international astrophysicists have identified\nJupiter-like cloud bands on the closest brown dwarf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>A group of astronomers have identified band-like\nclouds on the surface of Luhman 16A similar to Jupiter and Saturn.<\/li><li>They have used the idea of polarimetry\ntechnique, that the light emitted by a cloudy brown dwarf or reflected off an\nextrasolar planet, will be polarized.<\/li><li>This is the first time the scientists used the polarimetry\ntechnique to determine the exoclouds.<\/li><li>The new study of Luhman 16A is special as the\nresearchers have found the actual structure of the clouds.<\/li><li>The study helps in understanding the pressure,\ntemperature and climate on the surface of the celestial body.<\/li><li>Astronomers used<strong> Very Large Telescope at\nEuropean Southern Observatory, Chile.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Luhman 16<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Luhman\n16<\/strong> is the third closest system of the Sun after Alpha Centauri and\nBarnard\u2019s star. It is a binary star system.<\/li><li>Luhman 16 is at a distance of about 6.5 light-years\nfrom the Sun.<\/li><li>Luhman 16 A and Luhman 16B is referred to as a\npair of brown dwarf and orbit each other casting a dim light.<\/li><li><strong>Brown dwarfs are called failed stars<\/strong> as\nthey are too small and unable to sustain the fusion of hydrogen to produce\nenergy.
