{"id":2586,"date":"2020-04-22T12:51:14","date_gmt":"2020-04-22T07:21:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2586"},"modified":"2020-04-22T12:51:14","modified_gmt":"2020-04-22T07:21:14","slug":"inactivated-virus-vaccine-is-on-the-cards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/inactivated-virus-vaccine-is-on-the-cards\/","title":{"rendered":"Inactivated Virus Vaccine Is On the Cards"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In News <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) is working\non developing a vaccine to the COVID-19 disease using an inactivated virus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Vaccination is the only possible solution to end\nthe spread of the Coronavirus which is wreaking havoc in many nations.<\/li><li>Across the world, many organisations are working\ntowards developing a vaccine to kill the virus. <\/li><li>The World Health Organisation (WHO) has already\nlisted 42 possible vaccine candidates that are being developed by various\norganisations.<\/li><li>In this endeavor, the CCMB is developing an\ninactivated virus vaccine.<\/li><li>Inactivated vaccines are considered safe and are\neasy to produce.<\/li><li>To produce an inactivated vaccine to COVID-19,\nthe virus will be killed either by a chemical or heat.<\/li><li>But, the key components of the virus such as the\nreceptor, with which the virus enters a human cell and the antigen of the\nvirus, which the human immune system recognises, are kept intact.<\/li><li>When the inactivated virus is introduced into\nthe body, the immune system is tricked to produce antibodies against the virus\nantigens until they last in the body. <\/li><li>Inactivated vaccines of polio and the rabies are\nmade this way.<\/li><li>As the virus is inactivated, it cannot cause\neven a mild disease and is safe to be administered in people with low immunity\nsuch as the elderly and people with co-morbidity.<\/li><li>Currently, the CCMB is in the process of growing\na large number of viruses in the lab and inactivate them. <\/li><li>As per CCMB, once the cell-culture-based\nproduction of the virus is in place, an industry partner will be roped in to\nproduce the vaccine.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Challenges <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The main challenge in creating an inactivated\nvirus is in the production of virus in large number outside the human body.<\/li><li>The novel coronavirus, which has evolved to live\nin a human cell, that too a cell with ACE2 receptors, identifying the right\nline of cells to culture the virus outside the human body is the key\ntechnological challenge for scientists. <\/li><li>For developing the vaccine, CCMB is using\nepithelial cell lines from African Green monkeys.<\/li><li>Scientists are growing the cells in a petri dish\nto artificially culture and grow the virus.<\/li><li>The culture will be successful if the cells\ndie-off and release the cells. <\/li><li>The virus thus released will in collected,\ninactivated and will be developed into a vaccine. <\/li><li>The cell culture will also benefit the\nscientists to develop drugs for the coronavirus. <\/li><li>Once the cells are infected, a potential drug\ncandidate can be tested.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>In News The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) is working on developing a vaccine to the COVID-19 disease using an inactivated virus.
