{"id":2573,"date":"2020-04-14T12:41:47","date_gmt":"2020-04-14T07:11:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2573"},"modified":"2020-04-14T12:41:47","modified_gmt":"2020-04-14T07:11:47","slug":"young-patients-of-covid-19-have-low-levels-of-neutralizing-antibodies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/young-patients-of-covid-19-have-low-levels-of-neutralizing-antibodies\/","title":{"rendered":"Young Patients of COVID-19 Have Low Levels of Neutralizing Antibodies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In News <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>New research shows that about 30% of patients have low levels of\nantibodies against novel coronavirus (SARS-COV-2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>A team of scientists researched COVID-19\npatients who were discharged from the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Centre on\nFebruary 26.<\/li><li>Analysis of blood samples revealed that about\n30% of patients have low levels of antibodies.<\/li><li>On average, ten patients had low levels of\nneutralizing antibodies that could not be detected, while two patients showed\nvery high levels.<\/li><li>The study also showed that the plasma of elderly\nand middle-aged patients have significantly high levels of neutralizing\nantibodies and spike-binding antibodies.<\/li><li>The median age of the patients was 50 years,\nhospital stay was 16 days and the disease duration was 21 days.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Symptoms and Duration of the Disease<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The disease duration of young patients with low\nneutralizing antibodies was not longer than old patients with higher amounts of\nantibodies.<\/li><li>So both young and old patients took same time to\nrecover.<\/li><li>Researchers say that the study is preliminary\nand they were not able to detect the viral DNA in the blood samples. So it is\nnot known that the young patients with lower viral load resulted in a lower\namount of neutralizing antibodies.<\/li><li>The team was able to detect coronavirus specific\nneutralizing antibodies 10- 15 days after the onset of the disease. Then it\nremained stable.<\/li><li>The patients included in the study had mild\nsymptoms and patients in the intensive care unit were excluded.<\/li><li>Younger patients with low levels of neutralizing\nantibodies have recovered from the disease by convalescent plasma therapy.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Immune Response<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The study suggests that the higher levels of\nneutralizing antibodies in aged patients are due to the \u2018strong\nimmune response\u2019.\nBut it is not known whether the high neutralizing antibodies in older people\nwill protect them from critical conditions.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The researchers say that the antibodies generated in response to\nnovel coronavirus could bind with 2003 SARS strains.
