{"id":2542,"date":"2020-03-18T11:24:21","date_gmt":"2020-03-18T05:54:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2542"},"modified":"2020-03-18T11:24:21","modified_gmt":"2020-03-18T05:54:21","slug":"effect-of-glucose-on-liver-functioning-and-ageing-revealed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/effect-of-glucose-on-liver-functioning-and-ageing-revealed\/","title":{"rendered":"Effect of Glucose on Liver Functioning and Ageing Revealed"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In News <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Scientists from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research,\nMumbai (TIFR) had revealed how glucose impacts the metabolic functions of liver\nand ageing, a discovery that will contribute significantly to the wellbeing of\nhumans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>An enzyme named SIRT1&nbsp;is associated with the metabolic functions and ageing and\nhence became a target for developing therapeutics.<\/li><li>Now, the researchers from TIFR has found how\nglucose regulates the function of SIRT1.<\/li><li>It was found that absence or low regulation\nleads to diabetic-like conditions and excess and sustained feeding of glucose\nleads to obesity and enhances ageing. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Metabolic Diseases and Feeding <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Many metabolic diseases in humans and animals\nare related to high-calorie content in the body. <\/li><li>These diseases, as many studies have shown, are\ndue to wrong feeding regimen. <\/li><li>Every organism evolved to feed and fast\nalternately and understanding this cycle is a must. <\/li><li>The cycle, known as the feed-fast cycle is the\nbasic pattern and the metabolism-related to this is taken care of by the liver.\n<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Role of Glucose<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Researchers discovered that glucose plays an\nimportant role in regulating the function of the SIRT1 enzyme and thereby the\nfeed-fast cycle. <\/li><li>SIRT1 is known to maintain the everyday\nfeed-fast cycle of the body and is also associated with ageing.<\/li><li>In a normal healthy body, SIRT1 levels increase\nduring the fasting period and decrease during the feed period. <\/li><li>This cycle is important for glucose and fat\nmetabolism.<\/li><li>Though the role of SIRT1 in metabolism is known\nfor many years, the metabolic factors that increase and decrease the functions\nof SIRT1 are unknown. <\/li><li>In the fed state, glucose restricts the activity\nof SIRT1 and in the absence of it results in hyperglycaemia, a condition found\nin the diabetic state. <\/li><li>The researchers also found that sustained\ncalorie intake leads to the reduction of SIRT1 activity and increases ageing\nand obesity. <\/li><li>The study thus shows that over-activation and\nunder-activation of SIRT1 will lead to diseases.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The findings of the research will help in fighting lifestyle disease and ageing-related diseases.
