{"id":2491,"date":"2020-01-07T12:06:45","date_gmt":"2020-01-07T06:36:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2491"},"modified":"2024-06-07T16:55:00","modified_gmt":"2024-06-07T11:25:00","slug":"sustainable-development-goals-india-index-2019-released","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/sustainable-development-goals-india-index-2019-released\/","title":{"rendered":"Sustainable Development Goals India Index 2019 Released"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In News <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The NITI Aayog has released the Sustainable Development Goals India\nIndex 2019 for all the states and Union Territories that measure the progress\nmade in achieving the United Nations\u2019 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>According to the index, India\nimproved its score from 57 last year to 60 this year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Among states, Kerala topped the\nindex.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As per the index, there are\nseven states and two UTs in the \u201cFront runners\u201d category. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Of the 27 \u201cperformer states,\u201d Bihar\nfound itself in the last place.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This is the second edition of\nthe SDG Index from NITI Aayog.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The index measures progress\nmade by states across 16 SDGs. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The assessment is based on the\nprogress made by states and UTs on 100 indicators.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>These indicators are drawn from\nthe National Indicator Framework prepared by the ministry of statistics and\nprogramme implementation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chandigarh topped among the UTs\nwith a score of 70.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No state came close to get the\n\u201cachiever\u201d status, which is the 100% scorecard points. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Also, no state has fallen into\nthe \u201caspirants\u201d category, the lowest category with a score of 0-49. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>However, 22 states have scored\nbelow 50 in indicators such as child stunting, obesity and anaemia,\nagricultural production and subsidised food distribution. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The central Indian states of\nJharkhand, Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh have soccer below 30 in the above\nmentioned indicators. This indicates a high prevalence of hunger and\nmalnutrition in these states. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The front runner states in 2018\nwere Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh. Five other states joined them in\nthis year\u2019s index &#8211; Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Sikkim and Goa. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The improvement in the\nperformance of the states can be majorly attributed to positive push in five\nmajor goals &#8211; affordable and clean energy, industry, innovation and\ninfrastructure, clean water and sanitation, life on land and peace, justice and\nstrong institutions. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Poor Gender Equality <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Gender equality is the fifth\nSDG and as per the index, almost all states fare poorly in achieving gender\nequality. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Only states like Kerala, Jammu\n&amp; Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh were able to achieve scores above 50.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For gender equality, the\nindicators included crime against women, eradicating sex selection,\ndiscrimination against daughters, access to health schemes, political\nempowerment etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The sex ratio of 896 females\nfor 1000 males and prevalent spousal violence against women contributed to the\nlow score countrywide. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Swachh Bharat<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Coming to the sixth SDG &#8211; clean\nwater and sanitation &#8211; the impact of Swachh Bharat is clearly visible, as four\nof the seven indicators deal with toilets and sanitation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Except for Delhi, almost all\nstates have scored above 65 on the percentage of urban households having\nindividual household toilets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SDG Seven<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Progress in achieving SDG seven &#8211; affordable and clean energy &#8211; was majorly due to government interventions like providing electricity and cooking gas connections to rural India. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>In News The NITI Aayog has released the Sustainable Development Goals India Index 2019 for all the states and Union Territories that measure the progress <a class=\"mh-excerpt-more\" href=\"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/sustainable-development-goals-india-index-2019-released\/\" title=\"Sustainable Development Goals India Index 2019 Released\">    [read more]<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[98],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v22.9 -
