{"id":2467,"date":"2019-12-31T11:20:21","date_gmt":"2019-12-31T05:50:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2467"},"modified":"2019-12-31T11:20:21","modified_gmt":"2019-12-31T05:50:21","slug":"atal-bhujal-yojana-launched","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/atal-bhujal-yojana-launched\/","title":{"rendered":"Atal Bhujal Yojana Launched"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In News <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a new\nprogram <strong>Atal Bhujal Yojana<\/strong> for sustainable groundwater management across\nthe country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Atal Bhujal Yojana will\nstrengthen the institutional framework for participatory groundwater\nmanagement. <\/li><li>The scheme is especially aimed\nat areas where groundwater levels are very low.<\/li><li>It will bring about a\nbehavioral change at the community level in groundwater management. <\/li><li>The scheme is set to be\nimplemented in 8,350 gram panchayats in 78 districts of 7 states. <\/li><li>The states are Gujarat,\nRajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra.<\/li><li>The total outlay of the project\nis Rs. 6000 crore. This is for the duration from 2020-21 to 2024-25. <\/li><li>Of the total outlay, 50% will\nbe in the form of a World Bank loan. Rest 50% is in the form of central\nassistance through regular budgeting support. <\/li><li>The World Bank loan will be\nrepaid by the Central Government.<\/li><li>States receive the World Bank\nloan and the Central government\u2019s assistance in the form of state grants.<\/li><li>As per the scheme, panchayats\nthat perform better will be allocated more financial allocations.<\/li><li>Also, the Prime Minister has\nlaunched the guidelines for Jai Jeevan Mission (JJM).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">JJM <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>JJM aims to provide Functional\nHousehold Tap Connection (FHTC) to every household of the country by 2024. <\/li><li>Currently, of the 17.87 crore\nrural households in the country, 14.6 crore households accounting for 81.67% of\nrural households, do not have water tap connections.<\/li><li>The estimated project cost is\nRs. 3.6 lakh crore. Of this, the share of the central government is Rs. 2.08\nlakh crore.<\/li><li>The funding pattern is 90:10\nfor Himalayan and North-Eastern States; 50:50 for other States and 100% for\nUTs.<\/li><li>The released operational\nguidelines will help every functionary involved with JJM to implement the\nmission effectively. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>India is starting at a future where there will\nbe a severe shortage of drinking water. Excessive usage of groundwater for\nagriculture has already depleted groundwater resources in many states. Some are\nfacing chronic groundwater shortages. The Programme Atal Bhujal Yojana is the\nright initiative to regenerate groundwater resources. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the estimates show, the lack of water tap\nconnection for 81.67% of the rural households is staggering. This means they\nare either relying upon poor quality for their drinking water purposes or are\nchoosing high court alternatives.
