In a study published in Lancet Psychiatry,<\/em> the prevalence of\nmental health disorders is high among the southern states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The study conducted by the India State-Level Disease Burden\nInitiative<\/strong> found that southern states Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka,\nTelangana, and Andhra Pradesh account for the high prevalence of mental health\ndisorders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The disorders primarily manifest during adulthood in the form of\ndepression and anxiety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The study is the first comprehensive mental health disease estimate\nfor the country from 1990 till 2017. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Conclusion <\/p>\n\n\n\n Due to the changing lifestyles and the lack of proper support\nsystems due to shrinking family size, the mental health disorders are\nincreasing in the country. As such, the mental health disorders among adults\nare higher in southern states. Among school going children, bullying is the\nmajor cause for depression and anxiety.
