{"id":2399,"date":"2019-12-03T14:33:11","date_gmt":"2019-12-03T09:03:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2399"},"modified":"2019-12-03T14:33:11","modified_gmt":"2019-12-03T09:03:11","slug":"rainfall-pattern-changing-due-to-global-warming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/rainfall-pattern-changing-due-to-global-warming\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Rainfall Pattern Changing Due to Global Warming\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In\nNews <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a new study by Indian and U.S researchers, global\nwarming is altering the global rainfall pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail\n<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The authors of the study found\nthat a key weather system has been altered due to global warming and it has led\nto changes in rainfall pattern across the world.<\/li><li>In India, the whetting of the\ncyclones in the Bay of Bengal and the decrease in winter rainfall in northern\nIndia is due to changes in the weather system.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">MJO<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Spanning across 12000-20000 kms\non the tropical oceans, the Madden\u2013Julian\nOscillation (MJO) is a moving band of clouds that\ntravels around the globe. <\/li><li>In its travel, it touches the\nlargest pool of warm water in the world &#8211; the Indo-Pacific ocean pool. This\naffects the lifecycle of MJO.<\/li><li>The researchers have found that\nthe MJO clouds are spending only 15 days over the Indian Ocean as against 19\ndays earlier.<\/li><li>Over the Pacific it has\ndecreased to 16 days against 23 days. <\/li><li>This change in the residence\ntime of MJO clouds has altered global rainfall pattern, the researchers\nsuggest.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">MJO\nand Indian Monsoon<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>When MJO is one the Indian\nOcean during the June-September monsoon season, India is set to receive more\nrainfall. <\/li><li>While the early forecast was\nfor 2019 below normal monsoon rain for India, the country ended up receiving\nexcessive rainfall patly due to the presence of MJO.<\/li><li>According to a researcher from\nthe Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune any change in MJO could\ndrift warmer water towards the Bay of Bengal which will increase cyclones. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other\nObservations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>To compute the reducing\nlifecycle of MJO, scientists have compared ocean temperatures from 1981-2018. <\/li><li>As per calculations, the warm\npool of water has been expanding by 2,300 sq. km annually from 1900-2018. But,\nbetween 1981 and 2018, it has increased to 4,000 sq. km per year.<\/li><li>The researchers found that\nchanges in MJO has increased rainfall over northern Australia, Amazon basin,\nsoutheast Asia, West Pacific and the southwest Africa. <\/li><li>Rainfall decreased over West\nand east coast of the U.S, over central Pacific, north India, Yangtze basin and\neast Africa.<\/li><li>Researchers also linked the\nfrequent forest fires in California, East Asian Floods, droughts in Africa and\ncyclones in Bay of Bengal to changes in the MJO cycle. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion\n<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The study points to the importance of MJO on global rainfall pattern\nand its importance for Indian monsoon.
