IT is not yet official but a new dwarf planet\nhas been found in our solar system. It is tentatively named \u2018Hygiea\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So far, five dwarf planets have\nbeen officially recognized as part of our solar system.<\/li>
Famous among them is Pluto\nwhich had been downgraded from the status of a planet. <\/li>
The other four are:
Eris<\/li><\/ul>
Makemake<\/li><\/ul>
Haumea<\/li><\/ul>
Ceres<\/li><\/ul><\/li>
Now, Hygiea is the new claimant\nto the dwarf planet status.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
Hygiea<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Located between Mars and\nJuputer, Hygiea is so far considered as an asteroid. <\/li>
The new dwarf planet was found\nby astronomers using the SPHERE instrument of the European Space Agency at Very\nLarge Telescope (VLT).<\/li>
If Hygiea qualifies for the\ndwarf planet status of the International Astronomical Union, it will become the\nsmallest dwarf planet. <\/li>
IAU has set four criteria for a\ndwarf planet:
It must orbit around the Sun<\/li><\/ul>
It is not a moon to any object<\/li><\/ul>
It has not cleared the\nneighbourhood around the orbit <\/li><\/ul>
It has enough mass that its own\ngravity pulls it into a spherical shape<\/li><\/ul><\/li>
Hygiea already satisfies the\nfirst three criteria. <\/li>
With VLT observations, the\nfourth requirement has also been confirmed by the astronomers. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
VLT <\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Very Large Telescope (VLT) is\nthe world\u2019s most advanced visible-light telescope.<\/li>
It is totally operated by the\nEuropean Space Agency.<\/li>
VLT is located in the Atacama\ndesert. <\/li>
There are four individual\ntelescopes.<\/li>
Each telescope has a primary\nmirror of 8.2 across.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
