This is low compared to many other\ndeveloping countries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail\n<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>According to the study\nconducted by the NSDC, 7 crore additional individuals in the working age of\n15-59 years are expected to enter the labour market by 2023.<\/li><li>Of this, 5.9 crore individuals,\nthat is 84.3% will be in the age group of 15-30 years. <\/li><li>But, this demographic dividend\nis drastically skewed towards women.<\/li><li>As per the study, only 1 in 5\nindividuals entering the workforce will be a woman. It accounts for only 20.1%\nof the total labour force that would enter the market in 2023. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gender\nSkew<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The National Statistical\nOffice\u2019s (NSO) Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLSF) for the year 2017-18\nestimated that female participation in the labour force for ages 15 and above\nwas only 23.3%. <\/li><li>Compared to Asian countries\nlike China &#8211; 61%, Vietnam &#8211; 73%, Singapore &#8211; 60%, and Bangladesh &#8211; 36%, India\nlags far behind.<\/li><li>The countries that come close\nto India are Lebanon &#8211; 24%, Pakistan &#8211; 24%, Tunisia &#8211; 24% and Sudan &#8211; 24%. The\ndata is from the World Bank. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Global\nPhenomenon <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>There is a decline in female\nparticipation in the labour force globally since the last decade.<\/li><li>From 49.09% in 2009 to 48.11%\nin 2013 and 47.66% in 2019, there is a steady decline. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Experts\nView <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Experts are of the opinion that\nthere is no need to worry about the NSDC projections.<\/li><li>They say that a major shift\nwould happen in the youth population in the coming 10-15 years. <\/li><li>Women in the age group of 15-19\nwill opt for higher education than to participate in the workforce.<\/li><li>So, finding women&#8217;s\nparticipation in the age group of 20-34 years will be meaningful.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Data\nfor Skilling<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>According to the study, 52% of\nthe male entrants and 42.6% of the female entrants will be in the age group of\n15-20 years.<\/li><li>NSDC, which is a\npublic-private-partnership under the Ministry of Skill Development &amp; Entrepreneurship,\nis using the data to modify skills training modules going ahead.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other\nFindings <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu,\nKarnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar will account for 50% of the\nnew entrants (15-30 years) into the labour force during 2019-23 period.<\/li><li>30% of the youth entrants\n(15-30) will be from Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion\n<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Higher female participation in the labour force will augur well for\nthe economy.
