It is developed by a\nresearch team from Jamia Hamdard University in New Delhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>India is the leading country in\ntuberculosis deaths. It is a great burden on our healthcare system. <\/li><li>While the World Health\nOrganisation aimed to eliminate TB by 2035, India wanted to do this by 2025. <\/li><li>In order to achieve the target,\ndiagnosing the disease is the key. <\/li><li>The research team led by Dr.\nSayed E. Hasnain has thus developed this small device.<\/li><li>SeeTB can be attracted to a\nsimple optical microscope to convert it into a fluorescence microscope.\nThis enables proper TB diagnosis at the point-of-care. <\/li><li>The device is battery operated\nand can quickly identify the bacteria. <\/li><li>To aid in quicker detection,\nthe team also developed a clearing reagent called CLR that thins the sputum and\nenhances bacteria detection.<\/li><li>Currently, using a fluorescence\nmicroscope requires infrastructure, an air-conditioned room, trained\nprofessionals and is possible only in tertiary health care centres.<\/li><li>With the new device, a simple\nmicroscope can be converted into a fluorescence microscope.<\/li><li>This is a cost-effective\nalternative for a country like India. <\/li><li>And the device can be used in\nthe Primary Health Centres at the village level and diagnosis of the disease. <\/li><li>Once detected, treatment can be\nstarted immediately. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Performance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The researches tested the\ndevice on more than 300 suspected pulmonary TB patients and it showed higher\nsensitivity than the fluorescence\nmicroscope.<\/li><li>While the fluorescence microscopy\nshowed 63.38% sensitivity, SeeTB showed 76.05% sensitivity.<\/li><li>Also, the new device when\ntested against GeneXpert, diagnosis tool that looks for DNA markers of TB\nbacteria, the new device showed improved sensitivity. <\/li><li>While GeneXpert took two hours\nto find the bacteria, SeeTB took only 30 mins.<\/li><li>The Indian Council of Medical\nResearch (ICMR) is planning to validate the CLR-SeeTB on a large-scale in its\nprimary health research units&nbsp;across India.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion\n<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The device looks promising to scale up a faster diagnosis of TB and\nstart treatment.
