{"id":2290,"date":"2019-10-24T16:22:17","date_gmt":"2019-10-24T10:52:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2290"},"modified":"2024-06-07T17:34:39","modified_gmt":"2024-06-07T12:04:39","slug":"qs-india-rankings-iits-dominate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/qs-india-rankings-iits-dominate\/","title":{"rendered":"QS India Rankings &#8211; IITs Dominate"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In News<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The QS Indian University rankings has released\nthe second edition of standalone Indian University rankings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>This is the second edition of\nthe QS Indian University Rankings. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It includes private, public,\ndeemed or higher education universities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Indian Institute of\nTechnologies (IITs) dominate the list. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>IIT-Bombay tops the list. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is followed by the Indian Institute\nof Science (IISc) Bangalore, and IIT Delhi which has improved its rank from and\npushed IIT Madras to fourth place. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Among the top 10, Delhi\nUniversity, IISc and University of Hyderabad are non-IIT institutions. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eight Indicators <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>For the rankings, QS took eight\nindicators into consideration. They are:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Academic Reputation &#8211; Weight of\n30%\n<ul>\n<li>Employer Reputation &#8211; Weight of\n20%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faculty-Student Ratio &#8211; Weight\nof 20%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Proportion of Staff with a\nPh.D. &#8211; Weight of 10%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Papers per faculty from Scopus\nDatabase &#8211; Weight of 10%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Citations per paper from Scopus\nDatabase &#8211; Weight of 5%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Proportion of International\nStudents &#8211; Weight of 2.5%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Proportion of International\nFaculty &#8211; Weight of 2.5%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The indicator Academic\nreputation which has the highest weight is used by QS in its major global\nsurvey of academics who are asked to identify top institutions in their\nrespected fields of expertise.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u2018Proportion of Staff with a\nPh.D.\u2019 indicator shows the institution\u2019s commitment to hiring highly qualified\nfaculty. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The global appeal of the\ninstitution is shown by the \u2018Proportion of International Students\u2019 and\n\u2018Proportion of International Faculty\u2019 indicators. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The research productivity of\nthe institution is indicated by \u2018Citations per paper\u2019. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Not Comparable <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The Indian rankings, however,\nare not comparable with QS World University Rankings. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the rankings released\nearlier this year, IIT Bombay was ranked the top Indian University and\nIIT-Delhi the second best. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The QS Indian rankings and the\nWorld Rankings use two different criteria. For example, the academic reputation\nindicator has a weight of 40% in the World Rankings while it is 30% in Indian\nrankings. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The world rankings released by QS are one of the best indicators of the status of a University. Country specific rankings like the one carried out in India will help the Universities in the country to compete and improve their standards.
