{"id":2173,"date":"2019-09-03T14:40:15","date_gmt":"2019-09-03T09:10:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2173"},"modified":"2024-06-08T10:30:51","modified_gmt":"2024-06-08T05:00:51","slug":"making-agro-waste-useful","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/making-agro-waste-useful\/","title":{"rendered":"Making Agro-Waste Useful"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In News <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Indian scientists have found a way to use agricultural\nwaste in many applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Researchers from\nthe Centre of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB), Mohali have developed\nLignin-based nanocomposite that has potential commercial value.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They have found\nthat the lignin nanomaterial can be used as an additive in coating and\npackaging materials.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lignin<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Lignin is a\ncomplex organic polymer found in almost all dry plants including crop reduces\nand barks of trees. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is rich in\npolyphenols with antimicrobial properties. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This lignin is\ngenerated in post-harvest residue, in paper and pull industry in huge\nquantities. All this go waste every year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Also, the\npractice of burning post-harvest waste is leading to environmental pollution. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>With the new\nnanomaterial, all agro-waste can be converted into a value-added material\nthereby reducing pollution and giving an extra income to the farmers. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Research <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The research team\nused gold-silver nanoparticles and lignin as the matrix material. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They developed\nthe composite material using green and reproducible techniques. This involves a\nsingle-step method using lignin as the sole source for reducing, capping and\nstabilising the nano-agents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After assembling\nthe composite, they have tested for antimicrobial quality of the material. The\nlignin-nanocomposite retained its antioxidant and antimicrobial qualities. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As per the\nresearchers, the material has excellent microbial targeting by the mechanism of\nreactive oxygen species production and membrane disruption of microbial cells.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Currently, the\nresearchers are finding a way to scale-up production and reduce production\ncosts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Burning of agriculture waste is a huge problem in the country. The new innovation when scaled will definitely help in reducing the waste and bringing the much-needed relief from air pollution to the cities like Delhi.
