By automatic route, FDI doesn\u2019t require prior approval\nof the government of RBI.<\/li><li>Captive consumption\nmeans when any organization\u2019s manufactured goods are not sold in the market but\nconsumed by a different division of the organisation. The purpose of captive\nconsumption is to produce or manufacture other products.<\/li><li>With this\nextension, now foreign companies can directly sell commodities enter into the\ncoal industry and directly sell its commodities for commercial benefits.<\/li><li>100% FDI has been\nalso approved in contract manufacturing through automatic route. Contract\nmanufacturing is a form of outsourcing. Contract manufacturing takes place when\na company makes a contract with a foreign company to manufacture its products.<\/li><li>The government\nfurther eased FDI in SBRT- Single Brand Retail Trading. Till now, for an SBRT\nentity which has more than 51% rcent FDI, had to procure 30% of its total goods\nfrom India.&nbsp;<\/li><li>As per the new\nnorms, the procurement of procurement for export will now be included in the\n30% from local sourcing rule.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Understanding FDI:<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>FDI &#8211; Foreign\nDirect Investment &#8211; refers to the investment done by foreign entities like\nmultinational companies in India. It provides employment to the local people by\nproducing and marketing goods in India.<\/li><li>The investor owns\nand controls the firm in FDI. This is usually done by taking a considerable\namount of shares in the company and influence its management and policies.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why FDI is preferred over FPI?<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>FPI &#8211; Foreign\nPortfolio Investment &#8211; can be defined as a cross border transaction which\ninvolves investment in shares and bonds for short term benifits.<\/li><li>FDI is a prefered\nform of foreign investment because it is a long term investment. An FDI\ninvested company makes infrastructural developments and provides employment.\nFPI, on the other hand, does not create productive assets for the economy.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<table class=\"wp-block-table\"><tbody><tr><td>\n  <strong>Sector<\/strong><strong><\/strong>\n  <\/td><td>\n  <strong>Old Limit<\/strong><strong><\/strong>\n  <\/td><td>\n  <strong>Revised Limit<\/strong><strong><\/strong>\n  <strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  Mining\n  (Coal and Lignite)\n  <\/td><td>\n  100%-\n  Only for captive consumption\n  <\/td><td>\n  100%\n  for both captive consumption and direct selling\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  Contract\n  Manufacturing\n  <\/td><td>\n  No\n  Provision\n  <\/td><td>\n  100% \n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  SBRT\n  <\/td><td>\n  30% goods to be procured from India\n  <\/td><td>\n  Exports will also be counted in procurement\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  Digital Media\n  <\/td><td>\n  49% (under approval route)\n  <\/td><td>\n  26% (under government route)\n  <\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusion: <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At first glance, the relaxing norms appear\npromising for the coal industry as well as the national economy.
