{"id":2144,"date":"2019-08-29T15:42:56","date_gmt":"2019-08-29T10:12:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2144"},"modified":"2024-06-06T16:30:22","modified_gmt":"2024-06-06T11:00:22","slug":"india-child-well-being-report-released","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/india-child-well-being-report-released\/","title":{"rendered":"India Child Well-Being Report Released"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In News <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To measure the well-being of children in the country, non-profit\norganisation <strong>World Vision India and Institute of Finance Management and Research\n(IFMR)<\/strong><strong> LEAD have\nreleased a report called the India Child Well-Being Report.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The report has a Child Well-being Index that\nmeasures and tracks the well-being of children across all the states in the\ncountry. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As per the Index, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Himachal\nPradesh among States and Pondicherry among the Union Territories (UTs) have\ntopped the index. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kerala leads the index with happiest children\nwhile children in Madhya Pradesh are least happy. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">24 Indicators <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The index measures the level of well-being based\non 24 indicators and three important dimensions. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The three dimensions are &#8211; Positive\nrelationships, healthy individual development, protective contexts. This in\neffect goes beyond income poverty to measure child well-being.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The indicators include health, education,\nnutrition, family income, human rights, mobile usage, digital access, mental\nhealth, quality of relationships between parents\/peer and children, financial\nliteracy etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Health Indicators &#8211; Infant Mortality, Under Five\nMortality, adolescent pregnancy (aged 15-19), mental health, and sex-ratio.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Education Indicators &#8211; pupil-teacher ratio,\npassing of tenth grade, basic reading and math skills, drop-out rates in\nsecondary school.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Crime Indicators &#8211; suicide rates, juvenile\ncrimes, child labour. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Economic Indicators &#8211; households with income\nless than Rs 5,000, houselessness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Labour Indicators &#8211; manual scavenging<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Ranks <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>All the indicators are brought to a common scale\nof measurement for ranking the States. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kerala got the top score of 0.76 while Madhya\nPradesh got the least score of 0.44. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Among UTs, Delhi got a score of 0.53 followed by\nDadra Nagar Haveli with a score of 0.52. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kerala surpassed many other states of the\ncountry by ensuring access to good health, nutrition, clean drinking water,\ngood education and has addressed poverty. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In contrast, Madhya Pradesh fared poorly in\nchild survival, crimes against children, nutrition, and juvenile crimes. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The report also showed that in Jharkhand the\nproblem areas are child stunting, access to water and sanitation, access to\ninstitutional delivery etc. By improving these, the state can improve its\nranking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Many of the North-eastern states have fared in\nthe top quintile of the rankings. Nagaland, for example, is in the top\nquintile.
