{"id":2074,"date":"2019-08-16T12:02:29","date_gmt":"2019-08-16T06:32:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2074"},"modified":"2024-06-06T14:33:27","modified_gmt":"2024-06-06T09:03:27","slug":"a-new-scheme-for-research-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/a-new-scheme-for-research-funding\/","title":{"rendered":"A New Scheme For Research Funding"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In News <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To promote research in cutting edge areas of science, the <strong>Science\nand Engineering Research Board (SERB)<\/strong> is launching a new scheme called <strong>Supra\n(Scientific and Useful Profound Research Advancement)<\/strong> to fund scientists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>SERB is planning to launch the scheme as part of\nthe government\u2019s 100-day transformative ideas. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The objective of the scheme is to funding new\nscientific and engineering breakthroughs of global impact. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SERB is targeting to fund disruptive ideas that\nwill lead to new areas of study, new technologies, new products and new\nscientific concepts. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The design of the scheme is such that it will\nattract high quality research proposals that will challenge the existing\nscientific understanding or altogether hypothesise new science. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SERB<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>SERB is a statutory body set up to fund research\nin various scientific disciplines. It disburses funds through various schemes\nand programmes. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As per the Supra scheme, the proposals of the\nPrincipal Investigators (PIs) should be extremely bold and cutting edge. The\nreviewers must be satisfied with the long-term impact of the proposals or its\ndisruptiveness. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the first year, SERB is planning to support\n15-30 proposals. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once approved, a proposal will get funding for 3\nyears which can further be extended by two years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Initially, a panel of top scientists will screen\nthe proposals of the PI\u2019s based on their previous work and public record. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Later, it will be evaluated by an expert review\ncommittee which is specifically constituted for each subject.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Committee has the freedom to solicit the\nservices of experts from overseas if there is a lack of subject knowledge on\nthe proposal within the country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Supra scheme is similar to the recently withdrawn High Risk-High Reward (HRHR) Research scheme of SERB. With HRHR, the organisation was unable to articulate what high risk means.
