{"id":2017,"date":"2019-08-06T15:10:18","date_gmt":"2019-08-06T09:40:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=2017"},"modified":"2024-06-06T15:23:26","modified_gmt":"2024-06-06T09:53:26","slug":"draft-e-commerce-rules-released","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/draft-e-commerce-rules-released\/","title":{"rendered":"Draft E-Commerce Rules Released"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In News <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Union Government has released the draft e-commerce rules that\nwill protect the interest of online shoppers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>In lieu of many cases arising from e-commerce\ncompanies defrauding shoppers, the Union Mistry of Consumer Affairs has\nreleased the draft e-commerce rules to protect their interests. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The guidelines provide for a 14-day deadline to\neffect a refund. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The companies must also accept returns if the\nproduct delivered is defective, wrong or spurious.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It mandates the e-commerce sites to provide\ndetails of vendors selling goods and services on their sites. The details\ninclude legal name, geographic address, their website, their email addresses\nand other contact information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They are also mandated to protect the personal\ndata of their customers by complying with the data collection, storage and\ncompliance rules of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008 and also\nwith IT rules of 2011. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>E-commerce sites must be registered entities as\nper Indian laws. They should submit a self-declaration to the Consumer Affairs\nMinistry stating that they comply with the guidelines. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The guidelines also state that the promoter or\nkey management personnel should not have been convicted in any criminal offence\nwith a punishable term of 5 years. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They are also required to state the name and\ncontact details of the grievance officer on the website. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Also, detailed information on how to lodge a\ncomplaint must be published on the site. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As per the rules, an e-commerce company cannot\nfalsely post reviews by representing themselves as customers. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>E-commerce sites are also mandated toe take down\nany seller from their listings if the seller is found to be selling counterfeit\nproducts and is not able to establish the product as genuine. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The sites are not allowed to influence the price\nof the products and services that are offered through their sites.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They cannot use any trade practices for promoting\nthe sale, use or supply of a product and cannot use deceptive or unfair\npractices that can influence the decisions of the buyers. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Most e-commerce platforms do not work with accountability. They\ndo not disclose full details of their terms of agreements with the sellers. It\nleaves consumers no way to redress their grievances.
