{"id":1969,"date":"2019-07-23T11:44:56","date_gmt":"2019-07-23T06:14:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=1969"},"modified":"2024-06-06T15:08:16","modified_gmt":"2024-06-06T09:38:16","slug":"chandrayaan-2-its-a-lift-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/chandrayaan-2-its-a-lift-off\/","title":{"rendered":"Chandrayaan-2 &#8211; Its A Lift Off!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In News <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>After a glitch that grounded the launch a week ago, ISRO has\nlaunched Chandrayaan-2 in a textbook launch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>In a historic achievement, ISRO has put the\nsecond moon mission of the country into the orbit. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>By the second week of August, Chandrayaan-2 will\nbe in the Moon\u2019s orbit and its scientific exploration begins. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The original date of Chandrayaan-2 launch was expected\nto coincide with the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 mission, the first mission\nthat let humans set foot on the Moon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Mission<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Launched using the Geosynchronous Satellite\nLaunch Vehicle Mark III (GSLV-Mk III), Chandrayaan-2 will travel a distance of\n3.84-lakh-km in about 50 days. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is tasked to shed light on unexplored part of\nthe Moon &#8211; the south pole region on the dark side of the Moon. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The mission includes a lander Vikram and a rover\nPragyan. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This will be India\u2019s first moon landing. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Targets <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The Mission aims to find water on the Moon and\nidentify locations where it can be found on the Moon\u2019s surface. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explore an area which no spacecraft has explored\n&#8211; south pole of the moon on the far side. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reveal new science about the moon &#8211; mineralogy,\ntopography, geology etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Investigate the presence of helium-3 in Moon\u2019s\natmosphere. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Detecting seismic activity on the moon. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Determining the elemental composition of the\nlunar surface. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Map the minerals of the moon.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Study solar radiation on the moon.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The mission, in essence, is a science-heavy\nmission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Race To Moon <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The race to the moon is heating up. Major\nspace-faring nations have their sight once again on the Moon. Private players\ntoo are interested in the commercial aspects of these missions. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Later this year China will send the Chang\u2019e 5\nmission that will bring back samples from the Moon. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>NASA is planning to send astronauts to the Moon\nin 2024 in collaboration with private players. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India too is gearing to send a third mission to\nthe moon in 2024 &#8211; Chandrayaan-3.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Chandrayaan-3<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>ISRO has already initiated talks with the Japan\nAerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) on possible collaboration in Chandrayaan-3\nmission. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This mission is expected to bring back soil and\nrock samples from the Moon\u2019s south pole. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The idea for a joint collaboration between the\ntwo space agencies fructified in the year 2017. Later in 2018 and earlier this\nyear, there were inter-governmental discussions on a joint lunar polar exploration mission.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This mission is slated to be launched in\n2023-24.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It is commendable how scientists of ISRO have accurately\npinpointed the glitch in the launch vehicle and worked round-the-clock to\nrectify and launch the mission in the small-window available. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Time and again ISRO has proven its technical prowess reaping rich\ndividends for the nation. The Chandrayaan-2 mission will put the country among\nthe comity of nations. Its scientific experiments will bring to fore new\nknowledge on the Moon.
