{"id":1916,"date":"2019-07-11T15:38:59","date_gmt":"2019-07-11T10:08:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=1916"},"modified":"2024-06-07T17:48:44","modified_gmt":"2024-06-07T12:18:44","slug":"new-worker-safety-code-bill-is-on-the-cards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/new-worker-safety-code-bill-is-on-the-cards\/","title":{"rendered":"New Worker Safety Code Bill Is On The Cards"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In News <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cabinet has given its approval to the Worker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.creditcards.com\/credit-card-news\/credit-card-verification-numbers-security-code-1282.php\">Safety Code<\/a> Bill which is likely to be placed in the Parliament soon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>In India, there are thirteen labour laws that ensure safety in the workplace. By merging all these laws into a single law, the government is trying to enhance compliance. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The code, \u2018Code on Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Safety Code Bill, 2019\u2019, will be presented in the ongoing Parliament session. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As per the government, the code will impact 40 crore unorganised sector workers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The sees to enhance the safety, health and working conditions across businesses by manifold. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It will be applicable to all enterprises including the services sector where 10 or more workers are employed. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For mines and docks, the code will be applicable even if there is one person working. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Some Provisions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The entity must provide an appointment letter\nmandatorily. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Annual health checkups for the employees must be\nundertaken by the entity. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There is a thrust on welfare provisions like\nproviding creche facilities, first-aid, canteen and presence of a welfare\nofficer. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The bill calls on the courts to provide\ncompensation for the victim or legal heirs of the victim if there is any\nincident leading to death or severe bodily harm to any person. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Also, a part of the penalty should go to the\nrehabilitation of the injured worker or as financial support to the family of\nthe deceased. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Women in Nightshifts <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Women are allowed to work in nightshifts only\nafter taking consent from them <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The bill allows them to work between 7 p.m and 6\na.m subject to holidays, safety, or any conditions prescribed by the\ngovernment. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ease of Doing Business<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The bill not only helps the workers but also\nhelps businesses in the form of a single licence. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Earlier, out of the 13 labour laws six required\nseparate registration. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>With eh proposed \u2018one licence one return\u2019\nbusinesses will save considerable time and resources. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Safe and healthy working conditions are prerequisite to a\nproductive workforce and economic growth of the country. The employers too will\nbenefit from a more productive workforce and avoid loss due to any untoward\nincident. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In such a scenario, the Code has all the necessary provisions to keep the workplace safe, healthy and secure for the workforce.
