{"id":1848,"date":"2019-06-20T15:21:27","date_gmt":"2019-06-20T09:51:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=1848"},"modified":"2024-06-06T16:40:13","modified_gmt":"2024-06-06T11:10:13","slug":"indian-institutes-yet-to-breach-the-top-100-rank-barrier","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/indian-institutes-yet-to-breach-the-top-100-rank-barrier\/","title":{"rendered":"QS Rankings &#8211; Indian Institutes Yet to Breach The Top 100 Rank Barrier"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In News<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the prestigious QS World University Rankings, Indian institutes are yet to find a place among the top 100. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">QS Rankings <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The QS rankings released annually by the\nQuacquarelli Symonds, a global higher education consultancy, ranks the world\u2019s\ntop 1000 universities. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It gives overall global rankings, subject\nrankings in 48 different subjects, faculty rankings in five composite areas,\ngraduate employability etc. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This is the sixteenth edition of QS World\nUniversity Ranking. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It measures the performance of each University\nbased on the following indicators:\n<ul>\n<li>Academic Reputation &#8211; 40% <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Employer Reputation &#8211; 10%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faculty\/Student Ratio &#8211; 20%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Citations per Faculty &#8211; 20%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>International Faculty Ratio &#8211; 5% <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>International Student Ratio &#8211; 5%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Performance Of Indian Institutions <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>As per the rankings, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Indian_Institutes_of_Technology\">Indian Institute of Technology<\/a> Bombay stood at 152 and is the top most ranked institute from the country. This is the second time in a row IIT Bombay achieved the feat. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The improvement in ranking for IIT Bombay is attributed to its good research performance. It is ranked 184 in Citations per Faculty indicator. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>None of the institutes from India have been able to reach the top 100.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are 3 institutes in the top 200 and 23 institutes in the top 1000. Of the 23, 9 institutes are in the above 500. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The top 3 are IIT Bombay (152), IIT Delhi (182) and IISc Bangalore (184). <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Many of the institutes from the country declined in rank due to two criteria &#8211; Faculty\/Student Ratio and International Student Ratio. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Silver Lining <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The silver lining is IISc Bangalore. It has been\nranked 2nd in the world for research impact adjusted to faculty size. It has\nachieved 100\/100 score for citations per faculty metric. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>IISc is also the first institute from India to\nsee its research cited more than 1 lakh times in a five-year period. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The rankings also showed that the research\nproduced by an IISc faculty member was cited 261 times in a. Five-year period. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On average, Indian universities have made 37.18\ncitations per faculty member for five years. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>OP Jindal Global University is the new entrant\nfrom India that found a place among the top 1000 universities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Plan of Action <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Already the Union government has taken certain\nsteps to increase the rankings of Indian Universities in global ranking lists. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Institute of Eminence (IoE) program and National\nInstitutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the Ministry of Human Resources\nDevelopment works towards this goal. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The IoE program will grant IoE status to an\ninstitution, provide the necessary funding to improve its infrastructure and\nquality of education. This is expected to boost the rankings at the world\nstage. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>NIRF ranks the institutions on five parameters &#8211;\nTeaching &amp; Learning Resources, Research, and Professional Practice,\nGraduation Outcome, Outreach &amp; Inclusivity, and Perception &#8211; annually. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>These rankings will enable the institutes to make necessary changes to perform better and become world-class institutions.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Classic IAS Academy <\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>In News In the prestigious QS World University Rankings, Indian institutes are yet to find a place among the top 100.
