{"id":1835,"date":"2019-06-18T15:27:40","date_gmt":"2019-06-18T09:57:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=1835"},"modified":"2024-06-06T16:35:57","modified_gmt":"2024-06-06T11:05:57","slug":"india-to-be-most-populous-country-in-next-8-years-un-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/india-to-be-most-populous-country-in-next-8-years-un-report\/","title":{"rendered":"India To Be The Most Populous Country in Next 8 Years: UN Report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In News<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The United Nations has recently released a report which projected India to overtake China as the most populous country in the world in eight years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-Detail <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The report, <strong>The&nbsp;World Population Prospects 2019: Highlights <\/strong>was published by the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Demographics_of_India\">Population<\/a> Division of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs. <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It provides a global view on population dynamics and demographic patterns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As per the projections, nine countries will have half of the world\u2019s population growth between now and 2050. They are: India, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Tanzania, Indonesia, the US and Pakistan. Among these, the US will see the least growth and India the highest. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>By 2050, the world population is expected to reach 9.7 billion and by 2100 it could become 11 billion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Slowing China<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>As per the projections, growth of population in\nChina is slowing down while India is racing to become the most populous country.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The report states that 27 countries have reduced\ntheir population size by 1 percent since 2010. This is due to sustained drop on\nfertility levels in these countries.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The projections show that 55 countries or areas\nwill see a reduction in their population size by 1 percent between 2019 and\n2050. Of these, 26 countries may see 10 percent reduction. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In China, the population will be reduced by 31.4\nmillion or 2.2 per cent by 2050. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Migration <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The report noted that migration is playing a\nmajor role in changing population dynamics in some countries.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As per the report, 14 countries or areas will\nsee a net inflow of one million people between 2010 and 2020. At the same time,\n10 countries will see net outflow of people in similar magnitude. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Migrant outflows will be high in countries like\nNepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Venezuela, Syria and Philippines. This may be due\nto demand for migrant workers abroad or insecurity or violence or armed\nconflict in these countries.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inflows will be high for Russia, Belarus, Serbia,\nUkraine, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, Italy and Japan. Here, immigrants will\noffset population loss due to excess deaths over births. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ticking Time Bomb<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The population projections for India do not augur well for the\ncountry. It is a ticking time bomb that is ready to explode. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scarce resources must be shared among the huge population. The\neconomic inequality will increase further. It will further lead to rise in\npoverty. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With unpredictable monsoons, there will be severe scarcity for\nwater. Already, there is a rise in unemployment in the country and population\nincrease coupled with advancements in technology will further aggravate the\nproblem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pressure on the infrastructure will be severe. Stress on the\nenvironment will be high. There will be huge burden on the medical\ninfrastructure and quality healthcare becomes costly. The issue of migration\nwithin the country may lead to clashes. Overall, the economic and societal\nburden will be severe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In terms of population control, states in Southern India fare better than Northern India. The high fertility states in the North must take immediate steps to control their population levels. They must take measures like spreading awareness, making birth control devices accessible, empowering women with their right to reproduce, providing education to all and generating employment opportunities.
