{"id":1640,"date":"2019-05-14T13:07:33","date_gmt":"2019-05-14T07:37:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=1640"},"modified":"2019-05-14T13:09:55","modified_gmt":"2019-05-14T07:39:55","slug":"the-manav-initiative-to-understand-the-role-of-tissues-cells","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/the-manav-initiative-to-understand-the-role-of-tissues-cells\/","title":{"rendered":"The MANAV Initiative \u2013  To Understand the Role of Tissues &#038; Cells"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>What Is It?<\/h3>\n<p>It is an initiative launched by the Department of Biotechnology called \u2018MANAV: Human Atlas Initiative to map every tissue of a human body.<\/p>\n<h3>Why MANAV?<\/h3>\n<p>By mapping every part of the human body, the Atlas will help understand the roles the tissues play and the cells that are associated with diseases.<\/p>\n<h3>What Does it Cover?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Every tissue that is accounted for in the body will be mapped using the available scientific literature.<\/li>\n<li>For better biological insights of the body, the physiological and molecular mapping will be undertaken.<\/li>\n<li>Through predictive computing, disease models will be developed.<\/li>\n<li>Will help in the holistic analysis and also in drug discovery.<\/li>\n<li>The project aims to capture human physiology in both normal stage and disease stage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Project Participants<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>For the project, the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) has invested Rs. 13 crores in two institutions &#8211; the National Centre for Cell Science and Indian Institute of Science, Education, and Research.<\/li>\n<li>Persistent Systems Ltd, the co-founder of the project has spent Rs. 7 Crore.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The Atlas Creation<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Students will be involved in annotation and curation of information that will form an online network.<\/li>\n<li>Students studying final year in biochemistry, microbiology, systems biologists, pharmacologists, biotechnology, zoology, botany, and data sciences can sign up for the project.<\/li>\n<li>Various colleges and universities can sign up for the project as teams.<\/li>\n<li>Colleges under DBT Star College Scheme will be accommodated initially.<\/li>\n<li>Registered students will be trained to annotate and curate scientific literature or research papers.<\/li>\n<li>Trainer scientists will assess student groups from time to time and evaluate their work.<\/li>\n<li>The project will begin with curating information on skin tissues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Also Read<\/strong>:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/chandrayaan-2-set-for-a-july-launch-isro\/\">Chandrayaan-2 Set for a July Launch \u2013 ISRO<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/target-2023-to-eliminate-trans-fats\/\">Target 2023 to Eliminate Trans Fats<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/turning-co2-into-rock-in-fight-against-climate-change\/\">Turning CO2 into Rock In Fight Against Climate Change<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The Importance<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The MANAV data will be useful for future researchers and physicians to develop better drugs and assess the patient in disease conditions.<\/li>\n<li>By involving students, the project will train them in reading scientific literature.<\/li>\n<li>It will enable researchers to trace the causes of diseases, understand pathways, and decoding how disease condition is linked to cells and tissues.<\/li>\n<li>The MANAV Team will also study the use of any potent molecules or elements that have not been used before to target cells and tissues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>What Is It?
