{"id":1572,"date":"2019-05-02T12:26:28","date_gmt":"2019-05-02T06:56:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/?p=1572"},"modified":"2019-05-02T12:26:28","modified_gmt":"2019-05-02T06:56:28","slug":"sdg-india-index-and-surprising-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classiciasacademy.com\/blog\/sdg-india-index-and-surprising-results\/","title":{"rendered":"SDG India Index and Surprising Results"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The NITI Aayog\u2019s SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) India Index released in December 2018 has thrown up surprising results regarding poverty eradication among states.<\/p>\n<h3>In-Detail :<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The general convention is that more advanced is states development more is the chance for eradicating poverty as it has the resources to do it.<\/li>\n<li>But, the SDG India Index shows that it is not the case.<\/li>\n<li>Industrially well-developed states like Maharashtra and Gujarat lag behind states like Chattisgarh and Odisha in eradicating poverty.<\/li>\n<li>As per the index, Southern States &#8211; Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu &#8211; and North East states &#8211; Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram &#8211; and Uttarakhand are \u2018Front runners\u2019 in eradicating poverty.<\/li>\n<li>States that are designated as \u2018Performers\u2019 are West Bengal, Telangana, Rajasthan, Jammu &amp; Kashmir, Sikkim, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Nagaland and Punjab.<\/li>\n<li>Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Chandigarh are \u2018Aspirant\u2019 States.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The Index :<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The Index developed by NITI Aayog will measure the progress made at the state and Union Territory level on the 13 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.<\/li>\n<li>It helps trigger action and fuel advocacy.<\/li>\n<li>The 13 SDGs the index measured were:\n<ol>\n<li>No Poverty<\/li>\n<li>Zero Hunger<\/li>\n<li>Good Health and Well-Being<\/li>\n<li>Quality Education<\/li>\n<li>Gender Equality<\/li>\n<li>Clean Water and Sanitation<\/li>\n<li>Affordable and Clean Energy<\/li>\n<li>Decent Work and Economic Growth<\/li>\n<li>Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure<\/li>\n<li>Reduced Inequality<\/li>\n<li>Sustainable Cities and Communities<\/li>\n<li>Responsible Consumption and Production<\/li>\n<li>Climate Action.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure style=\"width: 791px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.oxfordwoodrecycling.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/sustainable-development-goals.jpg\" alt=\"13 SDGs Sustainable Development Goals\" width=\"791\" height=\"460\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">13 SDGs Sustainable Development Goals<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>The four UN SDGs that were left in the index are:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Life below water<\/li>\n<li>Life on land<\/li>\n<li>Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions<\/li>\n<li>Partnerships for the Goal<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>The UN SDGs are to be achieved by 2030.<\/li>\n<li>NITI Aayog used 62 priority indicators for computing the index.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Strange Case :<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A strange case is that of Andhra Pradesh.<\/li>\n<li>Though the state is struggling with access to financial resources, it had performed well on numerous parameters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Composite Index :<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>In the composite index, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh are on the top of the list.<\/li>\n<li>Due to its efforts to reduce hunger, achieving gender equality, and quality education, Kerala was ranked higher.<\/li>\n<li>Himachal Pradesh for its efforts to provide clean drinking water and sanitation, preserving the mountain ecosystem and reducing inequalities.<\/li>\n<li>Gujarat ranks first in providing clean water and sanitation along with UTs &#8211;
